Id the shade is right, just too dark and you need someting between two intensities on the card, go back and have the painter mix your Dijon at a percentage - like, 50% or makybe start at 75% intensity. This basically adds white and lightens the color while maintaining the original shade. A neighbor did SW Compatible Cream all over the house, in varying intensities, and it did make a difference.

Sue, it's such a pain, isn't it, when you can kinda/sorta see in your head what you want, but can't find it on a chip. Or at least, you don't recognize it when you see it on the chip.

Have you checked The Gallery here (linked below) for the golds others have used? I used the Laura Ashley Gold #3 from Lowes for my bedroom. It looks lighter during the day, more gold in evening artificial light. I found it through another decorating board where lots of people were using it for kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms. It has some brown to it, but seems to have a good depth of color without going too yellowy.

My living room is BM Adams Gold - I think it's on the same chip as Stuart Gold, but I'm not positive.

I like it. It changes a lot with the different lights and seems to go well with a lot of different fabrics and rugs. It does not photograph well at all, though - every picture I have makes it look glaringly yellow, which it isn't. If you still want to see a photo, let me know and I'll dig one up.

Pittsfield Buff is a nice color as is Wilmington Tan (darker).

I assume that Concord ivory is too bright? What about Chestertown Buff HC-9, Putnam Ivory HC-39, or Shelburne Buff HC-28.

I used Weston Flax HC-5 when I felt that Concord Ivory was going to be too much for my whole house. It's a step down in brightness.

Thanks everyone. I also found a SW color called Yellow Cupola that I might try. Fortunately the painter is starting with a couple of rooms upstairs before he gets to my LR! I may also try seeing about trying the Dijon at 50% or even 75%. Unfortunately the closest store that has Laura Ashley paint is about 1/2 hour away from me. I have officially decided that gold is the hardest paint color to deal with! LOL.

Well after seeing it mentioned hundreds of times here, I tested SW Blonde and I think it's the winner! Restrained Gold would definitely be too dark in my room. But now I may have to paint my dining room because I'm not sure I love the "sightline" from the Blonde to the BM Stuart Gold in the dining room... sigh...

I have light yellow walls (BM Corn Silk) and dark trim, and my advice would be to be sure also to consider your wood floor color in the mix. I have a very light floor (it's birch, I think), then the dark baseboard, then the light wall, then the dark window/door trim...it's way too much contrast. I will go with a much darker wall color next time.

Thanks, that is what I've been battling with. So many colors I've tried have looked too much like a pale yellow. In my room, the Blonde is actually a fairly dark gold without being too dark.

And now, on to my dining room... decided to repaint there as well!

BM Barley.

I have used BM "Sandy Brown" extensively in my home - despite the title (it looks nothing like the chip when it's on the wall), it actually reads as goldish and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it looks against the white trim! I do have pictures, but I don't know how to post them directly from My Pictures file, sorry!!(i can e-mail them to you directly if you wish)
