What side is the best side to hand a towel rack or hooks?

Trying to finish a few details... and I'm in the Master Bathroom.

I'm thinking of hanging a towel rack or possible hooks.. which side should I do it on, the side above the soap dish, or the shower side? What about pictures too - yay or nay?

I don't have an opinion about towel rack placement. But I do want to tell you what a beautiful new bathroom you have! Very, very pretty.

I use washcloths instead of hand towels, and just lay them on the countertop. I get them from Costco cheaply, so have dozens and dozens
of white ones. For company you can put extras in a silver basket in the center of the counter. Love the bathroom.

This is not a towel problem, it's an installation problem. The best thing, of course, is when you can plan ahead and put wood blocking inside the wall where you will be attaching fasteners. Since that is not possible, you need to use an appropriate wall anchor. It sounds like a light-duty fastener was used, and this pulled out of the wall so a different light-duty fastener replaced it, and this is pulling out. You would do better with some type of moly bolt or toggle bolt. Hopefully the existing fasteners have not made such large holes that they will need to be repaired first. It sounds like you are not particularly handy, so, instead of getting the contractor back who has failed to do this right twice, I am wondering if you have a friend who knows what to do...it's not that hard. Anyone who is the least bit handy should be able to put in new, proper anchors and re-mount the towel bar in under 10 minutes as long as there is no major wall damage.

I'm sort of doing both too. But our bath redo is at a stand still, so I just put these up temporarily. Please ignore the walls, which will come down when the project is restarted. First, the train rack which stores and provides a towel bar as well. It will have the blocking to support it placed behind the new walls. The towel ring as shown was the one we used before, the old one, and I might find a place to put it but who knows. And here is my favorite hook of all time, which I purchased from Lee Valley Tools. It can go behind a door and it folds up. It is also a very nautical design, since boats are always short on space. It makes a good mudroom rack where you can hang a hat on top, and then spread out the other hooks for your gloves and jackets. And then this one, on clearance at Pottery Barn and sold as a bathroom magazine rack, but it is a fantastic towel bar/rack too. Not bad on the price either, if it is still available. I'm using it now beside my sink in the bath undergoing redo.

Eric, I just leave the bath towels on the warmer all the time. It would be a bit of a hassle remembering to move them back and forth. Smaller hand towels and the bath mat hang on other towel bars or rings. I have the Runtal automatic controller. It allows you to program different on and off cycles for each day of the week, multiple on and off cycles per day, and to control the temperature setting. Since I'm a creature of habit, the week days are all programmed the same, but at the weekend, the warmer comes on later and goes off later, as I tend to get moving later on those days. If my schedule deviates from normal, I can easily override the programming. The warmers in my guest rooms are programmed to be on in the mornings and again in the evenings, but off during the middle of the day. When I don't have guests, I simply set the temperature to "0", and they don't come on at all. The controllers are hidden away in cupboards or closets, where they're out of sight, but easily accessible, so their appearance wasn't a consideration. If you choose to go with a Lutron timer, be sure it's one rated for a heating appliance, and be aware that it probably won't provide as much flexibility or allow you to control the temperature level. I usually don't operate my warmers at their highest setting, and I appreciate being able to lower the settings on them during the warmer seasons. I've been totally happy with Runtal and recommend them.

We have hooks and heavy 33x66 bath sheets and have not had any problems with them drying - I have found that they don't dry as well on bars because the towels have to be doubled over to fit on the bars if you don't have room for 36" bars. Double bars were even worse IME because there ended up being eight layers of thick fabric in a small area. Two towels on one double hook (Delta Victorian, not one I'd recommend) dry just fine. I live in coastal New Hampshire where it is downright malarial in the warm months and arid in the cold; towels are laundered once a week and we have no problems with funkiness. We do also have the issue of towels not being hung neatly on bars, and I think decorative towels are silly (I am pretty much a failure as a girly-girl!). :-) Here's a picture: One way to evaluate whether towels dry sufficiently on hooks where you live would be to get some of the cheap over-the-door hooks from somewhere like Walmart and give it a shot before installing anything permanent.

I think I'd hang a couple of hooks on the shower end of the tub wall. That way you could just reach around the corner and grab a towel while exiting the shower. The other end (assuming you're referring to the soap dish by the sink) would be hard to reach since you'd have to lean over/around the vanity.

As for pictures, I love this room (ditto for all your other rooms we've seen) just as it is and would happily leave the walls bare. By the way, wishing you a speedy recovery from your up-coming surgery. Maybe you can lie back and just enjoy your beautiful home for a bit!

Love your room! Are you asking about a hook//bar for bath towels or hand towels? I am curious about how you finished the room. If you don't mind sharing, what material did you select for your floor?

What is the marble top in the second picture that appears to be in front of the tub?

I would hang a train rack on the wall with the shower, and a hook there over the soap dish.

I love the bath!! My MB is similar colors, but I have dark cabinets. Beautiful!

Nancy, I like the idea of a train rack ( I had to google it - as I didn't know what it was!) also, that marble in front - is a knee wall.

Pretty bathroom...love the wall color.

Given the length of the counter and my preference for adding softness to a hard space like a bath, I would get a counter top guest towel holder and put it in the middle so it's convenient to both sinks.

Hooks on the shower wall, but make sure they're high enough that you can lounge in the tub without towels getting in the way. You could even do the shelf on that wall, but I'd put it higher than you put it on the other wall in your photoshop.

Put towel rack on shower wall. That is where you would be standing up and it isn't as obvious from the entrance. You need a towel when you get out of the bath, you have the space don't clutter your counter. I also would forget to have a towel handy from the cupboard. Keep it practical, it is certainly a nice room.

Beautiful room!! I put the large size brushed nickel (fake, they are really plastic) Command hooks on the end of the wall like the one between your shower and tub. They hang nicely and could be reached from either shower or tub. I would hesitate to do a train rack at the end of the tub where you will be standing up. Potential head banger.

The Command hooks don't leave marks on the wall, so you can try it out. I put heavy damp towels back on mine and they've never failed to hold. If you like the placement, you can get fancier ones if you want to screw them into the wall.
