Towel Bar vs. Towel Hook
Comments (20)I realize this is an old post, but from personal experience (and I am not speaking necessarily about children) hooks are very plausible as a) they prevent over stacking b) gives the towels a chance to dry c) actually can look tidier as there is no need to fold/drape d) also purposeful for hanging a bathrobe or your clothes while bathing or even a small bathmat if floor space is tight. That said; for easy hanging of large bath sheets due to their length; I have sewn on a colour co-ordinated loop (double fold cotton bias tape found in the sewing notions) about mid way down on one side. Re style; just ensure you choose a hook that has a reasonable projection and has some sort of a stopper at its end and experiment with its spacing if using more than one. Oh, should add for those with the same question and have limited space for mounting; you might wish to look at a swivel type of hook as well that have more than one arm/hook....See MoreHook instead of ring for hand towel in MB?
Comments (2)You've already thought of the moisture problems with it hanging on a hook. I chose to use a toilet paper bar for mine. Sounds weird, I know. This is one of those bars that connects at only one point on the wall. A roll of toilet paper is meant to be slid onto the holder sideways. I like how it holds the towel evenly, instead of scrunched up like a ring would do. I can't say that I've ever really seen hooks used for towels much, but it sounds like it wouldn't stick out....See MoreTowel hooks instead of a bar?
Comments (10)Generally speaking, I don't think hardware should be a resale issue unless it's a whole house full of something extremely dated, worn out, or highly stylized or personal. Even then, any buyer who can pick up a screw driver should know that most hardware is easily replaced with their own choice and one of the easiest and fastest ways to make a place their own. I wouldn't worry about it at all unless this is being fixed up specifically for sale. In that case, less might be more (the train rack gives you a towel bar and leave it at that). People can always add hardware of their chosing. Stay with a basic style they can add to (train racks generally are). Would the hooks, if you use them, be in a regular wall? If so, they are easy to replace, especially if you keep a small container of touch-up paint marked for the room it goes with. If you are drilling holes in tile or something, then replacement is more of an issue, but as long as towels can be hung and have enough room that they dry properly, I don't see an issue for most folks. If this is for space considerations only, make sure that hooks large enough to hold and dry towels well don't stick out more than a towel bar. And if they are for your use, get what you want....See MoreTowel bars or towel hooks??? Help!
Comments (23)Is there any reason not to use robe hooks instead? Many of them look better to me, but they also need to hang onto the towels. The white rubber tip is ingenious, but I'm thinking about how they look when empty (these would be for guests, they could also use them to hang up their clothes when showering.) I have also thought of sewing the loops on the towels, but it seems like that would make them hang even more compressed, and less likely to dry. But in our climate, if you stay so long your towel smells moldy, it is probably time to go home! (But I have lived places where that seems to happen almost immediately, so your mileage may vary) Are some shapes better than others for keeping the towels on? At my in-laws, they fall off before you even turn around, so it's something I'm sensitive to....See Moresawmill
