Towel hooks or towel bar?
Comments (9)We're in AZ, so everything dries within 24 hrs or less. We always had bars and folded the towel long-ways in half and then over the bar. It was always dry by the next morning in this doubled manner. When we redid the old bathroom, I opted for a bar again for myself (because I also have a washcloth) and a hook for DH because he's not a very neat folder. His towel was still always dry by the next morning. I could see the mold potential, but if you get one of the big hooks that holds the towel out a little from the wall, I don't see how it would differ from the depth of a bar from the wall. In our new house, we're currently sharing one bar on limited wall space and I fully plan to switch DH to a hook again when we remodel. We also didn't have a hand towel bar when we moved in, so I just put up a removable plastic hook for the meantime. It's worked out very well (as DH ALWAYS removed the towel from the bar and didn't put it back) and I plan to hang both bathrooms' hand towels on hooks permanently as well!...See MoreAnyone use hooks for bath towels instead of bars?
Comments (19)We are planning to use hooks in our new home. I'm thinking of either bear hooks - one of our bathrooms is going to be "barely a bathroom" or wooden pegs. They will be big enough to easily hold a bath towel...Our other bathroom will have an outhouse/forest theme, so hooks/pegs related to that will work..and in an "outhouse", pegs will be very appropriate. Casual. We are building a log home, so the more casual hooks will work well for us. Besides, it seems like no matter how much time I spend hanging towels on bars, they always look a bit untidy. At least hanging them on pegs - they always like they are supposed to be casual.. I hope everything dries well...it's just my dh and me, so we don't have a lot of wet towels. But I hope this peg thing will work. He likes the idea, though!...See MoreHooks vs. bars: Help Single Dad w/ my towels!!
Comments (18)We have hooks and heavy 33x66 bath sheets and have not had any problems with them drying - I have found that they don't dry as well on bars because the towels have to be doubled over to fit on the bars if you don't have room for 36" bars. Double bars were even worse IME because there ended up being eight layers of thick fabric in a small area. Two towels on one double hook (Delta Victorian, not one I'd recommend) dry just fine. I live in coastal New Hampshire where it is downright malarial in the warm months and arid in the cold; towels are laundered once a week and we have no problems with funkiness. We do also have the issue of towels not being hung neatly on bars, and I think decorative towels are silly (I am pretty much a failure as a girly-girl!). :-) Here's a picture: One way to evaluate whether towels dry sufficiently on hooks where you live would be to get some of the cheap over-the-door hooks from somewhere like Walmart and give it a shot before installing anything permanent....See MoreTowel bar or hooks?
Comments (41)We have both hooks and a towel bar in our bathroom. I use the towel bar and my husband uses the hooks. My towel always dries much faster on the bar than my husband's does on a hook, unless he hangs his towel across all three hooks. Even though it's not as cute as hooks, I do think you'll be happier with a bar. "I can't believe that so many people hang up wet towels. 10 minutes or so in a dryer after everyone has showered, and the towels are fresh and dried, and the bathmat isn't a soaked mess." Sounds nice, but in our case, it would be more work and I'm trying to reduce unnecessary resource consumption in our household. Our bathroom is two floors up from the dryer and I don't have that kind of time in the morning, to run towels down, remember to pick them up when they're done and run them back upstairs. We simply hang our towels, and they're dry by the time we get home from work. We don't need them done any faster than that, and I don't have 2 minutes to spare on running towels around when I'm trying to get out of the house by 6:30am. I'd rather sleep the two extra minutes. ;)...See Moresawmill
