Boring dining rm...what curtains would you choose(pic)?

I painted my dining room with EK Cognac which I like, but the room needs a lot of help to be finished.

Obviously it needs curtains. I have JCP amber gold silk panels in the living room so I think I need something with a pattern for the dining room.

Do you think burgundy, green, more gold or something else? Do you think the striped silk panels from RH would work or Horchow has some interesting patterns (leopard?).

Any other suggestions? I will get a runner and centerpiece after the curtains to tie in with the colors.

Their site is down right now, but Calico Corners has the most beautiful plaid fabric (among their wonderful selections) with all the colors you've mentioned that would be perfect for your room. If a plaid is something you think you'd be interested in, I can try to find what I'm talking about on another site. Just let me know.

If you are able to see the LR from the DR, I would go with the same curtains.

I think a linen (fabric and color) would be beautiful in this room but only if you are unable to see from your LR. If they are open to each other, use the same curtains.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback! My goal was to create a warm, inviting space with neutral walls and floor and lots of color in the accent furnishings. So I agree, akrogirl, that the silver sage curtains seem to be reading too cool for the space. Funny - the very first things I bought for the room were the colorful pillows. Then the sofa and light green chair in front of the window, then the lamp and the red end table. Once I saw them all together, I despaired that they didn't really go, that the room was turning into a hodge-podge. Then I bought the pictures, and like magic, the pictures seemed to tie it all together... (to me, anyway). From the brighter spring green of the arm chair to the cool blue-greens of the lamp and knick knacks (with enough red to tie in the end table and the pillows). So while I agree with wendyb and busybee3 that the silver sage curtains go better in the room, maybe I need to pull in more of the brighter green to keep it from going too blue, too cool? To tie in the green arm chair and the (very warm) picture over the sofa? (Not to mention htnspz's comment about there being enough brown in the room - which is actually part of the reason I decided on a glass top dining table instead a wood top table, though I guess seeing brown chairs through the glass would kind of defeat the purpose!) Actually, htnspz - you mention that I should consider a warmer color for the drapes... not a green? Is there another color you think would work?? So no one has a problem with the wood legs on the green chairs being quite a bit darker than the table? Or with the bright green chairs competing with the red end table (visible on the last two pictures)? Thanks!!!

Pretty pattern, love the colors in it but it looks off. Others will probably disagree and I hate to be a nay sayer but IMHO if it were just check, it would be better. When I see complimentary fabrics working together, they are basically two completely different fabric styles with similar colors to tie them together. A floral & stripe, a stripe and polka dots, a solid and a print, but not two different stripes, or two floral patterns. You have your floral print in the living room, so in my minds eye, the dining room should be a complimentary fabric but void of flowers. These are the Moire Drapes from Country Curtains in the Rose fabric. On my screen, this fabric colors work better with the drapes and it also has a tad of your paint color in it. In this picture of the drapes, the wall color to the side is similar to yours (at least on my screen). Anyways...hope that helps. :c)

There are alot of things in that kitchen that are not attractive and that makes the attractive things not stand out. Our eyes tend to skip on things that somehow stick out and do not seem pleasant. So the goal is to eliminate what does not work before you make it better. Agree with much of what has been said. as you agree, the ceiling fan has to go. I also agree that wood valance has to go. black light has to go. Take everything off the counter and only put up one thing that is really lovely. The pictures are hung in a way that when I first saw them, I went "huh". I would take them out of the room entirely first. You also need to lose the pot hanging rack that has not so attractive acoutrement of cooking. If you want a pot rack, fill it completely full of really useful cooking utensils so that it says "we love to cook here". Another option is to only put up nice looking pots and pans only. Right now, it does not add but only detracts from the decor. I feel the same about the pendant lights. If you want to spend only a little money, get something that is completely neutral so they blend in. The potrack and the lights do not complment the room well. Your ceiling accentuates that you have not so good quality dry wall job. You either need to make sure you have a better paint job or pick a color that does not show the uneveness as much. This again makes my eyes see blemishes first before the beautiful things. A part of this is the picture you posted. But if it shows like this in real person, it may be contribute to the blah. Why do you have a chair rail on one wall but not the rest of the dining room? Again, it is off kilter a bit unfinished feeling. If you have chair rails, this is a great way to bring in a second color to the room, thus giving a contrasting color for visual interest. This is what I would do, take everything off/out that does not quite work. Then start adding one thing at a time and see if it works before adding another accent etc. Painting takes alot of work and is expensive. I think the paint color is doable as is. If you don't mind painting, I would go lighter. At Cambria website, they give you coordinaing BM color for each quartz color. Start from there. You have lovely cabinets and counterop. I know I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't invest so much into a piece of furniture designed to house a TV. The more I see TVs mounted on the wall the more I am getting accustomed to them, and as the technology progresses they will become slimmer and slimmer, which will make cabinets to house them less desirable, and less necessary. TVs are part of our lives, and a nice wall mount where the cord is not visible under the TV looks good just about anywhere. A big entertainment unit takes up a LOT of space, and a lot of air, and kind of takes over your room. And, in the end, when you close the doors, the doors are so enormous that is looks kind of odd, and you're not kidding anyone; everyone knows that there is a TV inside! Smaller TVs, on the other hand, can hide in armoires and cabinets more successfully since the size of the furniture piece is more typical and the doors will be smaller. We debated over this for quite awhile, and are very happy we wall mounted the TV, placed a great looking buffet under it, (which could be used in any number of places in the house in the future) and just enjoy watching it. You can get the remotes now that go through the wooden doors; so that opens up lots of possibilities for furniture to house your DVD player, etc. Take a look at Craigs List sometime and do a search on Entertainment Centers. You'll likely see several that can't be adapted to today's TVs and are being sold for pennies on the dollar. I think you could always be vulnerable to that in the future if you buy something primarily because it works for the TV you want now. Good luck with your decision, this is just my two cents, and I'm sure you know best what will work for you.

Boy, you have great bones to your DR to work with. Your dining room looks to be formal in which case, I would opt for delicately patterned silk fabric drapes with linen for the background or as Patrician suggested solid linen colored drapes. Keep it simple.

The dining room and living room are on opposite sides of the foyer. To the right is the living room. To the left is the dining room. The living room is painted with EK buttercream and has a very different feel than the dining room.

I think it would be too boring, also.

You have a pretty neutral LR so you can add some color to your DR windows and then add a few accents in the LR to tie it all together.

Red, green, rust or blue are all possibitities. Blue would freshen everything up. You have blue in your entry rug along with your art in the LR.

First of all let me tell you how beautiful the Cognac looks in your DR! Graet job! What color would you like to accent with? Really, you could introduce any color. It's trying to figure out what you have in mind. Below is a site with beautiful drapes at great prices! The beige silk are gorgeous as is champagne. Of course a pretty toile or another print is nice too! What style do you have in mind?

If you want the room to pop then use the complimentary color to gold which would be in the blue to purple family. There are wonderful patterned fabrics available. Just look for one that makes you smile. You have a gorgeous house there girl!!!

They are very pretty.

As kmcg stated, you can really use any color in the room. I'm thinking that a pattern would be nice and that you could bring the extra colors into your LR.

Your home is beautiful!

Would you mind posting a closeup of your living room curtains? I was interested in that same Amber Gold for my dining room. Did you have any trouble with the curtains being different lengths, as I have been reading on reviews?

newhomebuilder: Thank you. I will post a closeup when I get home tonight. The 4 panels were all the same length. The only problem I had was that out of the 4 panels JCP sent, 3 were the same color and 1 was much darker. All 4 were marked "amber gold". They replaced it promptly. They were a great deal with a 20% coupon on top of their sale price.

You house is so open & elegant.. I think it needs something really luxurious in the dining room. I like the idea of adding some black .. for drama & elegance.

I think the Horchow curtains are overpriced and underwhelming. For the cost, they should at least be weighted.

The first ones you posted were better. Just pick a color that you love and would like to bring into the LR, also. You wouldn't even have to do that, but it would bring everything all together so nicely.
