I'd do it in a heartbeat. They are after all two different rooms. Most people will not notice unless they get up close and even then it's doubtful they will see the difference.

I don't see a problem with it, if that's what you're interested in doing. However, since you've already matched the two rooms in paint color, I'd be afraid that using similar drapes as well would make them too matchy matchy. I see the drapes as an opportunity to help differentiate the two rooms a bit and would go with something that is different but complimentary instead. Know what I mean? A red solid with texture, a check print in similar colors or even stripes. Anything really that can offer the dining room some individuality.

Hmmm. Well, I thought I wanted the same drape in the dining room, but I do see the point about allowing them to be unique spaces. I currently have plain medium-dark red panels (slightly nubby texture) on the window in the dining room. They aren't bad by any means, they're just kinda ... there. I don't have a current photo of the dining room that shows the window, or the new paint that's going up. Soon though (I hope).

I would let them be there for a little bit after you paint to see how they work. Even if you want to change them out still it will help you to decide which direction you'd like to go.

I also agree that I would opt for a different, yet complementary fabric. Weren't you also considering a buffalo check at one time for the LR before you decided on the floral? The DR could be the spot to add in the check you were earlier considering.

what about a stripe, then if your living rm curtains came with a matching tieback use that in your dining room. do you want curtains or could you do just a valance of a stripe maybe get panel of the ebay and use it as trim( im thinking if you want to so or pay someone)or use your current red and use a stripe as a tie back.... good luck!!

Yeah ... a plaid or Buffalo check might actually work nicely in the dining room with the antler chandelier and Stickley mission furniture.

I just got all excited when I found those floral drapes that are so darn close to what I've already got. :-)

Thought I don't think anyone would notice the difference between the ebay and CC panels I too lean toward using a different panel pattern. If you could find a strip similar to the valance with all the right colors I'd think about that.

Can you sew? It seems I've seen that fabric recently.

I really don't want you to! Not only is the panel too similar that it looks like a mistake, but I think the area should be slightly different and special.

Sorry, that was said really sternly. I just think your place is great and I don't really want you to paint it a similar green and add the same-ish drapery.

almost the same isn't good....exactly the same is OK...if that's what you want....but almost doesn't make it.

I agree. Too much of the same thing Maybe if you had just on window in the living room, it might work. the solid you have sounds fine.

Thanks very much for the honest input! I think I will hold off on buying the "almost the same" floral drapes. I'll (try to!) live with what I presently have for awhile. Although, I gotta say, I really like this fabric (but in panels, of course):

Embroidered Buffalo check fabric with new wall color:

Pretty pattern, love the colors in it but it looks off. Others will probably disagree and I hate to be a nay sayer but IMHO if it were just check, it would be better. When I see complimentary fabrics working together, they are basically two completely different fabric styles with similar colors to tie them together. A floral & stripe, a stripe and polka dots, a solid and a print, but not two different stripes, or two floral patterns. You have your floral print in the living room, so in my minds eye, the dining room should be a complimentary fabric but void of flowers. These are the Moire Drapes from Country Curtains in the Rose fabric. On my screen, this fabric colors work better with the drapes and it also has a tad of your paint color in it.

In this picture of the drapes, the wall color to the side is similar to yours (at least on my screen). Anyways...hope that helps. :c)

Thanks so much! I agree that the moire plaid works better than the embroidered Buffalo fabric I posted above. When I do get ready to seriously think about curtains, I'll probably order swatches from CC to see what works best. The rug in the dining room is predominantly red, so whatever I choose will need to work with it. It also has golds, greens and some blues in it, so I'd think it would be fairly easy to coordinate with several colors. I guess the accent color in my kitchen would be red too!
