Should sheer curtain length match drapes?
Comments (13)I didn't want a pair of sheers because of the ability to accidentally leave an opening. My goal is to let light in, while being able to change without closing the curtains. In our last house, we had wooden blinds (regular size) and honeycomb blinds. A couple of those were cordless and they stopped working after a while, so I'm not keen on cordless. I don't mind the continuous loop versions. I'm intrigued by the idea of blackout fabric roman shades with sheer solar panels underneath, but that's not in the budget right now. (We're in the middle of a major kitchen remodel!) My husband is OK with getting more sheers for the room now, and changing it up later on when we decide what to do. There is no room in the current windows to attach any type of hardware. Not even tension rods. Anything would have to be mounted outside, but we don't want to poke more holes right now. Windows will be new construction windows, so the whole thing will be replaced....See MoreKitchen Slider Door and Window - should curtain match?
Comments (4)Not necessary to match. I have a roman shade in a print over sink and a cornice with roller shade on slider both in trim color. Same wall...See MoreUnable to find true black out curtains...should I just go to shades?
Comments (43)You could also hang the curtains on rings that attach with metal clasps. That makes them easy to remove to clean. Most draperies and curtain rods have "returns" on the sides. You could run your blackout curtains on rods underneath the outer ones. Putting them all on rings allows for them to be pulled to the side and opened. A curtain that has a rod pocket and is threaded onto a rod is not able to slide open. You might be able to slide them back with some effort, but that is awkward. I recently put my grand daughter's curtain on rings so that it could be opened. Her mother and other grandmother are more attuned to closing themselves and her up into the house. They never cared nor questioned that the curtains were permanently closed. That was back in September and the curtains are still open as I left them. The curtain is a very nice custom made one that I made. It was hung on a temporary basis that never got addressed for two years until I put it on rings. She is only three years old and I don't think she even knew that there was a window there. Now there is a little more than just an overhead light in the room. Now there is some real daylight. If you use separate blackout curtains it leaves your outer layer of curtains to be changed when you feel you need something different and you still have your blackouts. Have you looked at buying blackout lining at Joanns? Do you sew? You could do one solid panel across the window, as opposed to one on each side, and just have it slide to one side when you wanted it opened. I used to do draperies and they used to sell one by RocLon that worked quite well. That was some time ago and things may have changed....See MoreCurtains? No curtains? Shade? Kitchen Window.
Comments (8)I wouldn't want to cover up that lovely new trim either. Would inside mount blinds interfere with the window mechanism? Looks like that might be an issue? I might just get a light gauze fabric, or sheer curtain, cut & hem it to fit, and hang with a pressure rod just at the top of the window. Add a bit of cording or ribbon at the top corners - use that to pull the curtain open and closed as needed. It won't block light a lot, but will diffuse it to reduce glare and heat from setting sun...See Morenancyjwb
