Need Help With Drapes/Sheers
Comments (9)Thanks so much for the replies! graywings - My husband and I did discuss the blind/shade option and I looked today at Lowe's. That might still be a really good option! camlan- Thought about the tension rod, too. We're going to have to hem them anyway b/c they are the same length as the drapes (83") and since we have to lower them a few inches...well, you get the picture. Luckily my manly husband's mom was a seamstress, so he knows his way around a hem! (unlike me, who was generously given a "C" in one of my college design/sewing classes. The teacher, a very old ex-pattern maker at Vogue, said, "Honey, I'm giving you this grade on a silver platter. My advice is to marry a rich man so you never have to make your own clothes." :) I digress... valinsv: Thanks SO much for the photos - that's exactly what I'm looking to accomplish. Yours puts me to shame though, much more formal drapery and sheers. My sheers aren't pinch pleat, they are just generic BB&B type. Drapes are kind of a crumply raw silk. Also, is there another way other than a link to put pics in here? I noticed you've embedded them. I tried to do that but the "paste" option was not available when I right-clicked....See MoreURGENT- How long should be side window curtains or drapes?
Comments (14)I'm not sure if I am completely understand your dilemma so forgive me if what I write doesn't make sense, What is the reason for the short, lighter curtain? Is it a sheer for privacy? If you need privacy and your sheers are returnable you might consider replacing them with blinds. Blinds are considered a more modern look than sheers and would work better with your rug and furniture. If your sill is interfering with your longer panels you should be able to find rods that extend out farther than the rods you have now. If you have the room, I would also suggest that you lengthen your rod so when your long curtains are pulled back you see the window trim. You may want to add some extra panels for fullness. Whatcombination of sheer/blackout drapes plus panel for bedroom?
Comments (4)Option 1) Perhaps put a roll up blackout shade, made to fit your window. Keep it open until bedtime. It will show through the sheers but if it’s only used at bedtime it may be ok. Won’t help much with mouse or temperature. Option 2). Buy or have made heavy blackout drapes in a nice fabric, touching the floor. Use a double rod and put your sheers on this second rod underneath the blackout drapes. Sheers and blackouts can open and close independently, as you wish....See MoreWhere should I hang side white sheer curtains?
Comments (18)I too like to have window treatments with a common theme in open spaces. Your blinds unify them and using the same panels continues that look. I see you do have the panel only rods I was thinking about. Looks great! Have fun with your new home - putting your personal stamp on it,...See Moreshellsmom2
