Window rules - curtains or roman shades
Comments (1)As far as I know, there aren't any rules, but there are personal preferences. You don't want to use a window treatment that will get caught in the window, and some people complained about shades that got hung up on the handles for casement windows if they don't fold in. But it's really a matter of look and function...do you want more or less woodwork to show? Do you want more fabric or less? Do you want more light or less? Do you need light control? Do you need privacy? Do you want to see the view or obscure it? Natural roman shades would need vacuuming to remove dust, but so do other treatments. Shades can be easy to operate...you pull the cord and wind it on a cleat...or some types of shades are cordless with the mechanism hidden. Be wary of animals and small children who are attracted to curtain cords. You can even get the motorized shades....See MoreMixing curtains/shades/blinds in a living room? Need help w Bay Window
Comments (3)It would be nice to have a current pic, with the curtains you have hung, but by way of illustration I've inserted some below. The open alcove windows seem absolutely fine to me -- I'd added a round rug to accentuate the feeling that it's its own little 'room'....See MoreKitchen Slider Door and Window - should curtain match?
Comments (4)Not necessary to match. I have a roman shade in a print over sink and a cornice with roller shade on slider both in trim color. Same wall...See MoreWhere to hang kitchen curtain on this window.....need help/inspiration
Comments (10)If you're adding top molding that wraps around the sides of the cabinets (as seen in photo above) then I'd do a faux roman shade like ninigret suggested.....but only the depth of a valance. IMO, the molding is going to take up too much room to allow an outside mount....See Morespagano
