What finish(satin or eggshell) do most of you use on your walls?
Comments (25)LOL Ok depends on the house. In my alaska home I want reflective quality in the winter, so most straight painted walls and ceilings are in semi-gloss (shock and horror and yet it looks wonderful). Some walls are finished with varnish or shellac (even more shock and horror but they are the walls ya'll always compliment LOL) and others have a metallic finish. A few are finished with paste wax which when burnished is pretty glossy. Only my very deepest wall color in the basement is done in eggshell and that's because it gets too much light and was dang near glowing heh heh I'm also old fashioned so all trim is done in the highest gloss possible and I love that look. Now in the victorian, flat, matte whatever you call it for walls, though the ceilings will be in metallics most likely on the main floor. Trim paint is mostly being removed but the interim trim paint will be high gloss paint. I had a high gloss and then lacquered finish wall in one of my townhouses a few years ago. It was for art and it was stunning. The other walls in the room had to be semi so they didn't scream "different sheen" next to that long wall....See MoreDo I paint the inside walls of my walk in closet?
Comments (17)When I painted by main floor closet I bought a small can of white paint and dropped in one of my gazillion BM sample pots to create a nice off-white. I would never paint the closets the color of the adjoining room in my house because I change colors way too much. I also painted my three bedroom closets last month EK Gustavian Grey which is a lovely light grey (ceilings too.) For my 5 x 5 master bedroom I ordered a fun light. I have a gorgeous rug in their that I got on clearance. I am with Jan teacats, make it fun! Final answer: Life is to short to paint a closet plain white....See MorePainting a 'great room'. Comments (10)Thanks for the replies. The couch was bought in mind with the kids. The covers can be changed at will, so colour of the couch isn't an issue. Right now, it's just a black cover because I haven't made up my mind on a colour. There's an annoying fireplace we plan to get rid of next year and replace with built in cabinetry. The fireplace takes up too much space, the fire instantly makes the room too hot even during extreme cold alerts and the heat doesn't reach the bedrooms and doesn't work when the power is out. It serves no purpose beyond irritating me. We have some wooden shelves which are just natural wood. The coffee table is wood too. We're still choosing between armchairs or two-seater. We didn't have a playroom finished for years, so the kids were using the living room. So we only had the couch and toy chest and toy kitchen and coffee table with storage. Oh, and the shelves are a bit empty. It's supposed to be for display but I don't know that I have anything I want to display. I don't like guests looking through my stuff....See MoreNeed help choosing a BM off-white paint for a walk-in closet
Comments (9)what kind of bulbs do you have in there? they look on the lower temperature or 'yellow' end. You may want to replace the lighting, or at least the bulbs to something in a 4000K temp. what color is currently there? it already looks like an off-white. I like using the white straight out of the can with no tint added. it's the perfect white. You could always try that in your closet. with your lighting, it will take on a warmer hue anyway. And, if you don't like it, take it back and have your tint added to it for another color. free. I've never heard of Simply White having a green cast. it's one of the most neutrals whites. Chantilly has a blue/green cast. does it have to be white? why not a color? I'd also paint the wood trim in there a glossy white. it will help w/the freshen-up. Alabaster is a warmer white. pale oak is the perfect neutral and works with everything. (you could do that for the wall and the Alabaster for that wood trim)...See Morenatal
