Two Story Great Room Painting and Trim/Molding Questions
Comments (26)I have a few more options. What do you think? Palimpsest, I did the one panel like you suggested and fixed the heights. I also like the idea of doing sort of a raised panel look, either in the color of the trim (with everything the same color) or else in the color of my book cases so it could mimic the book cases on the other wall (they will be stained blue) Any of these options look good? If I went with option 4 or 5, I'd probably have the paneling look more like this than exactly like above: Either painted trim color or painted in the blue....See MoreWhat do you know about painting kitchen cabinets?
Comments (7)Any paint job is all in the prep. It takes a lot of prep, and prep isn't exciting to most homeowners. It looks like nothing is happening for a good whil and they wonder why they spent all of that money. And it won't be inexpensive for a good quality job. You can get a slap dash job for under 1K, but run away quickly! If you're up for a bit of messy phisical labor, it's really not a difficult DIY job. 1. Clean your cabs with TSP and rinse. 2. Scuff sand all surfaces. 3.(rime with an alkyd stain blocking primer like Bin or the original Kilz. 4. Apply 2nd thin coat of primer. 5. Thin the latex enamel topcoat with Floetrol and apply the first thin coat. 6. Apply 2nd coat. You're done if you want plain painted cabinets. 7. Apply glaze coat and wipe (if desired) 8. Apply clear acrylic sealer. 9. Wait until fully cured before rehanging doors. Install new knobs...See MoreExtremely heavy painting that I don't know what to do with!
Comments (10)Go to the hardware store and purchase a stud finder, heavy duty hangers, some hanging wire, and a couple of eye hooks. The last three are listed by weight - have some idea of how much it weighs. Pound the hangers into the center of the wall studs which you have located with the stud finder. Screw the eyehooks into the window frame of the painting, and use the wire to connect the two. The last I knew, the hanger package had useful hints about exactly how to run the wire. It should be set up with two different pieces of wire holding up each end of the picture so if one fails, the whole thing doesn't come crashing down....See MoreHelp...just moved in & dont know what to do w/ Dinning rm & Great rm
Comments (5)It's feasible that you should be able to place your three seat recliner facing the fireplace and then you can add the dining room table in the dining room. We might suggest placing the bench to the back wall, adding a rug, and getting a nicer chandelier. Then add some artwork and sideboard underneath it. If you desire more help with your dilemma we might advise you to look to our designs we have included below. Are you thinking of adding a TV in the great room? If so, we might suggest placing it to the left or right of the fireplace over a console....See Moreagk2003
