NHB, I did inform the seller who was wonderful, and I could have started an insurance claim, but I decided not to. I knew that the lamp could be beautiful with what remained of it, and that I would have had to give it all to the P.O. if I claimed insurance, so I chose to keep it. I would like to have had the saucer as it was very unusual, but I'm very happy with the lamp the way it is now.

Plus, it's VERY rare to find a lamp in old transferware - I know because I look often! This one is old and crazed but has no cracks or staining. It's just beautiful.

Beautiful job my3dogs. I love that pattern. My mother in law gave us a huge box full of Clarice Cliff Tonquin in red when I married my first husband 30 years ago. I still have them and use them every day.

May I ask where you bought the base? Was it purchased at the hardware store also? It fits perfectly.

I did buy the base at the lighting store. They are HARD to find! There are some online, but most of the online site had minimum orders, or charges if your order was below $50.

I had called this place (Fogg Lighting in Portland, ME) as I saw some black painted rosewood bases on their website but I wanted stained wood. They had this one and one a 1/2" larger. Only those 2 in stock.

How did they get the old base off the actual lamp? Was the saucer the bottom of the vase part or was the vase part attached to the old base directly?

You should write a piece about decorating from eBay. NY Times?

I had the lamp apart soon after it arrived. The base was separate from the saucer, which was separate from the 'vase' part of the lamp. It was all held together by a threaded brass rod that went up through the center of the lamp from the underside of the base to the socket. I unscrewed a nut at the bottom that held it all together and unscrewed the socket from the top, and I then had all of the separate pieces. I was very lucky that the 'saucer' was not part of the vase part.

I used to make all of my own lamps years ago out of crocks, baskets, vases, you name it, so am used to taking them apart and putting them together. It's really very easy.

Love the lamp. Wish I had seen it first! Too bad the saucer was broken.

I bought a dog TV lamp on ebay and made it into a table lamp. It's one of my favorite ebay finds and is in DS's guest room. I used only dog artwork (old etchings and prints) in the room.

Your vignette of "Ebays" is wonderful. It reminds me of an adorable shop I visited briefly in Chestertown Md today. Only their items are very pricey. I thought about your home as I was walking through!
I have never used Ebay, have been timid about it, but perhaps I should start looking now and then. Perhaps you can give us pointers?

Good morning, ladies! No need to be jealous auntjen, with that home of your and your recent CL finds. Allison, I'd be curious as to what you 'd have done with this lamp.

I just LOVE to work with my hands and create stuff. You see it in my sewing, and my joy at finding things that need a bit of work. I prefer to buy stuff on eBay and CL that needs a little something, because it's what I do for fun. When other kids were playing with dolls, I was drawing (Jon Nagy Learn to Draw!) and painting on smooth stones that I found at a local beach. And once I learned to sew, I was off and running.

Check out the faux lynx throw that I made from gorgeous fake fur from WalMart. I was surprised to see the quality, which was far nicer than anything Joann's had. I backed with with a solid fleece, and it's perfect to keep cozy and protect the couch from the dogs. Here Jenny is modeling it.

Better pic of the true colors. The fur has graining in it like a real pelt would, and the spots are recessed a bit. I've never seen such real looking fake fur. The entire throw is 100% machine washable and dryable.

Hi My3dogs...I have to agree with teacats in that you should market your incredible talent. Everything you own looks spectacular. You did a great job on that lamp and I especially like the "models" you use when showing your handiwork!!!!

I'm really impressed! I'm amazed at the new lamp base -- how did you know you could get something like that, and where did you get one to fit? I love all your ebay finds. I wish I had your creativity!

I love what you did with your latest Ebay find! You have a great eye for this kind of thing. The carved wood base was a great find, too. It looks much better than it did with its original base, which was awkward at best.
The faux lynx throw is lovely on your gorgeous new sofa. I'm still lusting over that find!
I agree with suggestions that you start up a blog. I'm not a huge fan of blogs in general, but with your talent, I can see yours doing fantastically. I love reading about all your finds and renovations. Please keep them coming.

I'm jealous too because I never find anything on our CL. I have picked up quite a few things on ebay though. Your lamp looks great!! I adore you home and your decorating skills.

I'm afraid that I don't have time to blog, with working full time and sometime traveling for work. Next week I'll be in Ohio the whole week. I do work from home when not traveling and THAT'S a gift, believe me. No commute time to take away from eBay and CL and playing with re-doing 'stuff'!

I'll always post my finds here. It's so fun to share them with like minded people, who enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the great finds and bargains to be had.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this transformation. You inspired me to take apart a lamp I got at an auction for $20. I never was thrilled with all the old brass base, & "oil lamp" detail at the top. So, today I took it apart & found out the vase, (what I really liked about the lamp) is Wedgwood! So the rest goes out & I go visit the lamp store to get the parts I need for the transformation.

When you posted pics of your house earlier, I thought it was such a well thought out place with great personal touches and 're-do's. I did not think it could get better! mo13, Thanks so much! I don't know if I could say that my place is well thought out, but if you think it looks like that I'm happy! Honestly, I might see some old thing that I just love and want to get from eBay or CL, and then try to work it in. I have (luckily for me) found that most pieces in my house can go from one room to another and still work. And, you get a whole new perspective and appreciation for them when you change them around.

You are indeed a creative maven! Be careful that you do not inspire us too much with your exploits on EBay or you may provoke competition. Seriously, the lamp transformation is beautiful. I have two pierced latticework ginger jar lamps that belonged to my mother that were damaged in a move several years ago. They have been sitting in a box in my garage because both need the wooden bases replaced and some ceramic repair. I have not been motivated to restore them, but now IÂm thinking about it.
