I think you can get by with a 6x9 instead of an 8x10.

I agree. A 6 by 9 should easily work in that space and not overwhelm your furniture. I'm not sure I would add another large piece of furniture, like that bow front chest. Your new chairs will take up much more visual space than your current placeholder chairs, and you'll need to also add at least one side table to your loveseat for a lamp, taking up even more space. It's going to be so pretty!

dee - I'll put a table on one side but 'm not planning for any lamps. We have recessed lighting there so there's really no need for a lamp. It's not a place either of us will kick back and read, we have enough other areas for that. I was actually thinking of getting some nesting tables for one side of the loveseat so that when we had company, we could pull them out for drinks and stuff but the rest of the time they'd be out of the way.

But I can see your point about not adding another large piece. I suppose the smart thing to do is wait another week until the chairs get here.

I need to find a leather ottoman or bench for in front of the loveseat. I don't want one too big so it's tough. Off to check Overstock I guess.

Okay - anyone want to weigh in with some thoughts about ottomans?

The long ones shown are around 40-41 inches long. That would go pretty much the length of the cushions on the loveseat so that's the longest I could take. I like that though because everyone in all the chairs could put their feet up them. I don't know if the one that's 25" deep would be too deep or not. Or maybe I should just do a pair of square ones? Not sure if I like that idea or not.

I'm open to other ideas if people have them. Thanks!

Any thoughts on the ottomans I posted?

I have a trunk in front of my love seat or did until I moved it to the living room for a change. It measures 36 by 21 and 25 wide, deep, would be fine. You have the room for it. My love seat cushions are also 45 wide.

I like one piece. And the good thing is my table will set up over the trunk when I do set it up and I do not have to move the trunk.

I love the trunk because it makes for great storage for the bread machine and 25 pounds of sugar and flour case of beer box of wine.I important stuff. LOL

Yeah, I think the one piece appeals to me more too. I can go either way on the storage but too too funny on the sugar and wine! I love my pantry for that sort of thing even though it means I no longer have a 2 car garage.

I can't figure out if I like the light colored one best or not. I like the style but it doesn't come any darker than that sand.

LOL We have pantry too. It is easier for me to lift the heavy things from the trunk . the floor space in the pantry is not very good for the bulk items and being so far in the sticks we really stock up for winter.

I want your chair!

I'd definitely get a smaller rug. We had a loveseat angled in the corner once, and we just loved it. I put an end table behind it with a lamp and a knick knack, and it really set off the space.

Even with overhead lighting, I think you'll have better ambience with a lamp in there, especially when company is over, or just to use as a night light in the evenings.

I'm a big fan of red, so I can see a darker/rust ottoman to bring out the red in your chair, and add color to the room.

I can't wait to see the finished product, especially with the new floor. What color wood are you getting?

Could be on the lamps and ambiance but we have the chandelier and the overheads and dimmers. We use the dimmed lights as nightlights all the time. I told hubby I could put a tree behind the angled couch but so far he's not a fan. We'll see what I can play with.

I'll look and see if I can find some reddish ottomans that aren't too big. The library is one step down from the sitting area and the room is painted red so I do want to draw a bit more of the red up to the sitting room.

Here's the floor that I hope is going in soon - whenever the darn moldings show up.

I think the ottomans you have chosen are nice, but too masculine and boxy for the furniture you are using. Have you considered a round one instead? Perhaps something in a water hyacinth or rattan for texture?

Please reconsider the idea of not adding lamps in the area. The overhead lighting is fine for cleaning floors, but I would not consider that a warm, welcoming light for sitting and enjoying a glass of wine.

Perhaps if you use the chandy, with some pretty shades, on a dimmer, and then add a narrow console table on the small wall, with a lamp or two there, you would be set.

Les I'll take a look at the round ones. Maybe something will jump out at me. One thing I like the idea of is everyone being able to sit and put their feet up on something at the same time, if they want to. That's the I imagine the guys will all use the space. :)

The chandy is on a dimmer and has shades. I took the shades off for the painting and for the upcoming tile demo.

I'll keep an open mind on the lamps until I get further along. :) We just never use them except when reading in bed.

Of the ottomans you posted I like #2 best, both because it's narrower and because it's leggier, so you'll be able to see more of whichever pretty rug you end up with and it may not block the pretty lines of the base of your loveseat. Does it come in any other colors, though? I'm not sure I like the black with your other furniture. It's hard to tell, but is the background color in the chair brown or black?

lovesummer - Good point on seeing the lines of the couch though the lines may drive me crazy because they are high enough for the dog's balls to go under there! Sigh. I'm spending a lot of time on the ground digging them out. :)

I think that bench only comes in the one color. It's a dark brown. The chair background is earthy browns and stuff.

Okay, still looking at ottomans. Hubby has a slight preference for the rectangles which would also make it easier to keep it pushed up to the loveseat most of the time (for the dog.)
