I KNOOOOWWW, Parma--I've thrown myself!! Sigh!! Daylight and night have really done me in!! Right now----I have many chips in hand and have decided (in daylight) that 'Believable Buff' may be an option if it doesn't go too olive green at night for me. BM's Monroe Bisque or Pittsfield Buff also look good with the leaning toward the more 'tan' of the MB being a better match for our sofa (which I've come to hate the fabric of)!It's a plaid (groan) that incorporates a deeper teal green stripe (1/2") with crosses of stripes that look more tan/peach (groan)and other crossings that create almost a grey/green! I know---but, I thought it was wonderful 15 years ago!!! I'd get rid of it and go for something new, except it is a very good quality built 'Bern'(amish families--kin to the Smith's, both in Indiana who also make a great line of furniture) line, substantial, an all-wood construction with all the details that make for an excellent piece--except for the fabric--NOW. I know there is no yellow in the fabric. I know it probably doesn't make any sense to go that direction, but I love the warmth of yellow and hope it can be considered 'neutral' going with almost anything! I have EK's 'Buttercream' in our master bedroom with her 'Ashen Green' trim and it's an awesome look but not for this room. The green would wash out to grey (tried it) and the Buttercream would bleach out, too! I've considered the 'Honeysuckle' but I really can't deal with too much in the way of 'peach' tones which I fear it could gravitate toward in that room! However, I bet it would work if I could tolerate the moments of pinkish yellow! It sounds more right for the funiture! I also need to get this done, because the flooring goes down on the 28th and I fear I could not get a sample pot from EK fast enough to get it all done, if it's not what I like in the end! I've recently reupholstered a platform rocker for our youngest daughter and am seriously considering undertaking recovering this sofa--into a single color (more neutral)and with texture! Another project!! Sigh! I'm off to the stores!!!!! Groan!!!!

i have to say, for years i have had custom golden oak cabinets with an off white wall and absolutely HATED the color although the cabinets themselves were above builders grade cabinets- very beautiful in the quality of the build. I kicked myself as to why i chose that color and would sit and look at those cabinets everyday just wondering what i could do to make myself like them. i posted on here as well as to what colors i could paint my walls, but truthfully i did not have much hope. First we changed the hardware from gold/brass to oil rubbed bronze, we changed our hanging pendants over the island also to oil rubbed bronze and it got better because taking off the gold hardware took away from the orangeyness. so anyway, it was better but i still did not love them. Finally i was at menards one day and saw some dimension designer color palettes that had 7 colors on there that would blend well in a room and i found 2 colors i liked and decided to just go for it around my cabinets, and the colors were dutch boy ginger tea and almond oil. i put the ginger tea all around the cabinets and the almond oil on adjacent walls. the colors are in the same tone and harmonize so well together it is amazing. the ginger tea is an olive green. the almond oil is more of a tan/khaki color. you don't mention what color his oak cabinets are, but i also saw the BHG page thst suggests colors for certain wood colors and they were very nice! The colors look incredible with my oak cabinets. i am not kidding you. it made me go from loathing the color to actually thinking they look quite beautiful. Everyone that comes in my house now comments on my cabinets where no one has ever said a word. I am so glad i took the plunge. we are getting new bar stools and countertops now which we think will add to the beauty. i can post pics if you like, but i don't think the pics do it justice.

How often do you use the DR? Is it for more formal entertaining? What kind of feeling do you want in there? If you replace the carpet, do you have an idea of what color you want? White again or darker? I tend to run with whatever the room is inherently. If it's small and dark, I would just embrace that and go with a deep, dramatic color. Make it into a small jewel box, sparkled with your dishes and crystal. I love your idea of the stripes. I'd keep them wide and do the same color but in different sheens (flat and eggshell) for a subtle look. If OTOH, you use the room all the time, more for family meals, then I might go with a soft green, something to connect to the outside which will help make the room feel more open.

I LOVE you guys! :) So much good stuff in here, and some hilarious stuff too :) igloo, I agree -- it can't hurt--and at this point, it's pretty much necessary. I actually mixed a color that DH and I LOVE -- we mixed some Copley Grey, believe it or not, some Pratt & Lambert Carolina Gull, and a touch of Pearl Grey. To me it reads like an F&B color, for some reason -- definitely greyed out but with depth*s* -- almost prismatic. It makes the oak look golden rather than orange! I have *no idea* how it works scientifically, though. I guess there's enough blue to neutralize the orange? But it doesn't look too blue--which is hard in that all-incandescent room, but BM Pewter did. When I get the paint up I'll try to take pics, which of course won't come out well at all since there's no natural light in the little cave...and it's just a yucky pre-remodel powder room anyway...but I could see liking this color enough to use it post-remodel too. I love when a thread broadens out to consider larger issues, like why surgical scrubs are blue-green...that was really interesting, spring. OUCH, kjmama...We've watched that happen around us. Our estimated value is a LOT less than it had been. We were almost thinking of selling anyway, because we were able to buy this before the real-estate rush back in the mid 2000s, and there are so many good deals out there now. But we *like* our house! The only problem is the location. We may have to move in the spring anyway, if DD doesn't get into particular schools. But we're refi-ing in order to live on our hopes (that she'll get into one of the two schools) and as insurance in case the world goes bonkers and inflation comes storming into town. cmama/Carol, how about telling us more about what's in the room? Or were you joking? If not, please say more. And the last time I stared at a wall for 5 minutes was in 10th grade while listening to "Dreamweaver"...and it wasn't alcohol making me do it...
