I wouldn't know a rare rose if one came up & bit me in the.....
Comments (10)Just thought I'd respond to your wish list from another zone 5 roseaholic. I doubt that Duquesa de Peñaranda or Angèle Pernet would survive well in your yard, as I've had bad hardiness from the Pernetianas and Dot roses in my zone. I also have had Belle Epoque die on me, but only once so far (which means it has two more tries) and since Mike grows it in his Michigan yard it should be fine. Jocelyn's another notorious wimp that isn't likely to get another chance with me. Among the other ones, Black Lady is a sturdy rose that mostly laughs at winter - the blooms are small but that elusive dark red I seek out. Peggy Rockefeller doesn't bloom as often but her blooms are delicious dark red and larger, and she survives in my zone 4 pocket. Aloha is tall and narrow and just in its fourth year growing beyond the 6' pillar it has been - reliably hardy, healthy and well formed blooms. I have both Polarstern and Paloma Blanca in the same bed, and Polarstern is definitely hardier and taller. I'll have to try Paloma Blanca on a warmer side of the house. Savoy Hotel has been a reliable tall bloomer, very healthy, though not as much rebloom as I'd like. Scarlet Velvet blooms off and on in my HT back bed and isn't particularly memorable for me, but that also means it's trouble free. Chic is a nice blend of colors and relatively modest grower so far in its 3rd year. Roberto Capucci is just in his second year, but a friend in my zone swears by him for regular fragrant double blooms. I'll bet no one in your neighborhood but the rest of the rose fanatics has heard of any of these roses, so in that sense they all are "rare" roses, and worth bringing to broader circulation. The more we grow these roses, the more excitement we hope to build in your average gardener to try them for themselves. Cynthia...See MoreHave to recharge AC more often than filling up!
Comments (4)Well first things first. You can't use an R12 compressor with 134A. The pressures are different and so is the oil. It will go for a little while. Next if there are no leaks, and you have one, the charge should last years. Third a 134a comvertion is usually 3/4 of the original 12 charge. It is a very slow freon and boils at -15F. In a proper charge the discharge air will warm up a few degrees at an idle and get cold at road speed. Normal. Forth, if over charged the releaf valve at the compressor will open and blow to atmosphere. There is no super heat switch. They now use a head pressure switch and internal bypass. Your car is too old for that. Bottom line. Unless you want to support the freon industry for years, send it out and get it fixed and properly converted. kalinin refrigeration...See MoreCat throwing up often...symptom of something serious?
Comments (5)I have a very healthy, young Burmese cat that throws up every few months for no reason then eats and is fine. She is a grazer and doesn't eat very much at a time, so I don't think she is too full. Sometimes there is undigested food in it and other times it is kind of clear but slimy. I asked a good cat vet about it and she said she has seen this before. If there is no other cause for it and the cat acts and looks fine she thinks it is a temperamental sphincter muscle. Nothing to worry about unless it happens very frequently - then it can cause other problems. Some cat owners seem to think dry food can be an issue for some cats. They don't chew the food, don't drink enough water and the food doesn't get digested and comes back up. I feed my cat good canned food so that is not an issue. I am no expert but my research shows that dry food is bad news in many ways so I moved her to canned when I adopted her. Her coat, energy level and body shape have changed markedly - all for the better....See MoreHow often do you use your airbath or does the novelty wear off??
Comments (24)I renovated my bathroom a year ago and went through this decision. I went to a showroom that had an airtub on the floor to test. I think if you wore a bathing suit, they would let you get in -- I didn't. As soon as I heard the noise from the motor I knew it wouldn't work for me. It would have shaken my small house off its foundation. I went with a deep wide soaking tub called a Kohler Expanse. It's fine. I prefer showers. I love my hand held shower head and can adjust it to pound on sore muscles. Maybe twice a year I wish I had a jetted (not air) tub. If I have pulled a muscle or my back is aching a good hot pounding would feel wonderful. An air tub is more like sitting in a glass of champagne -- it bubbles, it doesn't massage sore muscles. I think a hot tub would be fun. Here is a link that might be useful: kohler expanse tub...See MoreUser
