clear plastic tablecloths-need a source!

My friend has a 72" round dining table that has a quality finish that needs to be protected. In the past, she has used placemats, but has opted to purchase a 90" tablecloth from Ballards ($$). Although, she doesn't used this table daily, she is concerned that repeated washings will effect the life expectancy of the tablecloth. I suggested she buy a clear tablecloth protector, but I have been unable to locate this HUGE size. I can sew and could piece one together, but have never sewn plastic! Do you think it will work? (I know it sounds creepy, but people used to make plastic slipcovers to protect their upholstered furniture many years ago.) I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
