What gorgeous colors you have going one there! The wall color really, really compliments the furniture finish. And as others have said, that lamp is super fabulous. I'm not a huge fan of the painting (though I do like the other art you have up) but if DD loves it, then by all means hang it!!! I also think that your furniture choice is great as far as longevity. Simply by changing wall color, bedding, art and accessories, that's a room that can grow with her till she leaves for college. My DD redid her bedroom in a similar all-vintage style last year. She's now a teenager, and constantly changing her idea of what she likes, and just last week she did a re-do of her room by changing out the vintage art for a 1960's "modern" poster, trading the nightstand for a clean-lined parsons table, swapping the desk chair for an Alvar Aalto chair we had in the basement, and changing some lighting and bedding. Now the room has a much more sophisticated and "Apartment Therapy" kind of vibe... but she KEPT the major components of furniture, which are vintage french-provincial similar to yours. So, even if your DD's tastes change as she grows up, I'll bet that great furniture will last :)

justgottabeme: That is a very sweet story about your Mom. DD seems to enjoy having my attention on her room--sometimes before she'd get annoyed when I spent so much time on "decorating." What I am doing is sifting through the myriad of choices to 1-3 choices which I think are acceptable in terms of cost, color and durability and have let her make the final choice. Having this forum as a sounding board to determine the options is very helpful, but for the most part I try to let her make the choices. The JCP rug is a tad smaller than I'd like, though bac717 brought up a good point that with JCP returns are not a problem. I may actually work from the chair fabric backwards and see which fabric she chooses then choose the opposite color for the rug since we have two options. One concern I have with the dotted fabrics is that they are all 100% cotton--and perhaps not the most durable choice for the seat cushion. I really like what you have done so far. It looks very inviting! Have you tried the TV on a stand or in a cabinet between the two windows? I think that will give some nice breathing space between the it and the fireplace, yet still have both accessible depending on your activity in the room. It gives that wall the purpose you are looking for, as well. Bring the loveseat closer to the sofa. I know you don't want to block the window, but the pretty part is up high and you still have the view. Place the round table (or another table you have somewhere) between the sofa and loveseat and bring the blue&white china lamp down onto the it. You'll probably have to play with the spacing for the sofas and tables, but I really think something needs to be there. Your mom's quilt would look nice on some kind of frame or hanger on one of the walls. Re-accessorize the cubby the tv is on now with large scale items. A big basket with extra blankets or pillows, or large pottery. It would make a nice space for seasonal displays. Use a few of the things you have on the ladder to fill the small cubbies and the shelf above. I would stick with 3-5 different groupings, max, so it doesn't look cluttered. A stack of books would be one "thing", for example, since they read as a unit. I think the books and the little bird that is sitting on top of them would be nice next to the bird cage. Try using different patterned pillows together. The solid ones aren't giving you the pizazz you want. The one on the chair can be put in front of the one on the love seat, for instance. I'm assuming you like the shot of blue, so add it around the room some more so that it carries your eye along with some other color. I think using a mirror above the fireplace to reflect the outside is a great idea. You want it to tilt downward, so when you string the wire across the back, place it lower than halfway down from the top. You will probably have to adjust it to get the right angle, but once you have the eye bolts in it is pretty easy to lengthen or shorten the hanging wire. I like that you have a light on the cupboard in back. Maybe put something like a neat piece of knarled wood and a simple uplight there. A lamp in the display area where the tv is now, would be nice. Man, you really need plants but I understand your dilemma. I have the same issue and have had great luck with Snake Plant (Sansevieria) and Parlor Palm (Kentia palm). Also Cast-Iron plant and Chinese Evergreen are supposed to do well with very little light.

I think she could do better on the lamp. Her colors are warm so I don't see how silver fits, and I think the base and the shade are too close to the wall color. It doesn't feel like the rest of the room so it kind of serves the purpose of throwing one thing different into a room just for the sake of creating an eclectic look or for "interest". I pick up a cottage vibe with the wood table and bookcase and pillows. I think a rattan lamp might be nice with the sofa color and to add some organic texture to the room. Has she tried putting the bookcase flat against the wall? Then she could do another lamp and table. The bookcase is "posed" for photos and for view when entering, but I think it'd look more natural if it was positioned facing the seating.
