Very pretty and very elegant. My daughter had my childhood canopy bed, and I crocheted a canopy top for it. She, and I, always loved it.

I think the painting goes well with the bedding. Oh, and WHERE did you find that fabulous wall lamp?

Thank you. :) My daughter is very "girly" and loves pretty frills and floral so the room really suits her.
We bought the furniture and lamps together from an estate sale. My dh is an antique dealer and buys out estates quite frequently so I come across all kinds of "goodies". :)

I think the window would be beautiful with tied-back panels over sheers over white mini-blinds. Can't have too many frills in a girly room like this. And a canopy bed? Fabulous!

Thanks Sherrmann. She is 7. A mature 7 yr old though.. her favorite things to do are read, sew, knit and crochet! She's VERY happy about her "big girl" room. When she *does* get in the mood to play with dolls or play kitchen toys, ect she just heads to her little sisters bedroom. :) I'm liking the idea for tied back panels with sheers.. would it be out of the question to keep the cellulars though?

I think I'd let your daughter pick the art for her room. Just from what you've shown us I would never have guessed that's a 7-year-old's room. She may be mature for her age, but she's still a kid.

I love love love the color and feel of the room. One lucky little girl to have such neat antique things.
I was going to comment but natal beat me to it - I do not like the picture you've selected for her room. It's too old for her. What about some old style prints of children in black and white? Or how about some Mary Cassatt (sp) pictures? Does she like flowers? Maybe she could make her own pictures to frame.

Thank you both. I appreciate the honest opinions. :) My first thought.. when dh mentioned the idea, was that the oil painting is not really ideal for a little girls bedroom. The painting used to hang in our eat in kitchen at our old place. But my dd beamed when dh mentioned it and was really excited about it! So.. I thought whatever makes her happy! If she was against it I wouldn't even consider putting it in her room.. I want her space to be something she LOVES! And she has always LOVED that painting so I told her if it doesn't totally over due things it's hers! :) We will see though, it might not work with the canopy bed anyway.. and dd and I discussed that already.. she said she wants the canopy bed more then the painting if it's one or the other. No surprise there. ;)

That is a lovely space you are creating for your DD. I think young children tend to naturally gravitate towards what their parents expose them to. If we think they should like Disney stuff and expose them to that, they probably will; if we have a liking for art, they may pick that up also. Children are little sponges. I noticed that with my children esp. in regards to music. With my first two, I played children's music all the time in the car and that is what they liked; my youngest I played our music--jazz and 90's pop tunes, and that is what she liked. Genesis and the Beatles were her favorite groups for many years So much better as I was so tired of Baby Beluga by then....

My youngest DD (age 9) also has a liking for vintage furniture, though hers is not nearly as lovely as yours. Some things we've done on the walls she really likes are her name in wooden letters, some crosstitch pictures I made years ago, a fabric and ribbon message board over her desk and a white board on the wall (which is her absolute favorite as she loves to draw and write messages).

What gorgeous colors you have going one there! The wall color really, really compliments the furniture finish. And as others have said, that lamp is super fabulous. I'm not a huge fan of the painting (though I do like the other art you have up) but if DD loves it, then by all means hang it!!!

I also think that your furniture choice is great as far as longevity. Simply by changing wall color, bedding, art and accessories, that's a room that can grow with her till she leaves for college. My DD redid her bedroom in a similar all-vintage style last year. She's now a teenager, and constantly changing her idea of what she likes, and just last week she did a re-do of her room by changing out the vintage art for a 1960's "modern" poster, trading the nightstand for a clean-lined parsons table, swapping the desk chair for an Alvar Aalto chair we had in the basement, and changing some lighting and bedding. Now the room has a much more sophisticated and "Apartment Therapy" kind of vibe... but she KEPT the major components of furniture, which are vintage french-provincial similar to yours. So, even if your DD's tastes change as she grows up, I'll bet that great furniture will last :)

I love what you have done and what 7 year old wouldn't love it! It is so feminine and she won't grow out of it. Remember what Sarah Richardson says about decorating for kids-" those pint size kids grow up fast". I would have been in heaven to have had that room! I shared a room with two younger sisters. And the picture is perfect IMO. Good luck!

Can I ask what you used for paint? We move in less than 2 weeks and my DD wants a lavender bedroom. We had lavender in our last house, but have been in a rental for the last few months while househunting. I have some BM samples here but like the color you chose better.

I used Behr Ultra Hosta Flower and Fading Sunset. Fading Sunset is the darker color.. it's really lovely, I almost wish I had painted the whole room that color but was worried it would be too dark. I think it would have been fine though. It's such a nice color.. gives me such a good feeling everytime I walk past her room. :) She absolutely loves it too! :D
Oh, and I used Raffia Cream for the trim. I love that color too! I painted my diningroom and plan on painting my foyer Raffia Cream. :)

Someone else asked where I got the wall lamp from.. it came out of a local estate my dh bought out. I don't know anything about it though.. sorry. There is no name on it anywhere. I know it's old, hehe, but that's about it. :p

I don't like the pic either. I think it's too old for her now. Maybe save it for the next bedroom redo she goes thru.
I think the window needs some softening. A suggestion would be just a valance. Plain white with antique hankies heat and bonded on in random places. It would tie in with the quilt look and would be fun for her to pick and chose which ones go where.
I'd also consider doing a very small and simple stencil on the furniture using the wall color to add some punch to it and maybe a little green. A small bunch or maybe just three little violets.
If you do find you need more wall art since she likes to do handcrafts I'd suggest taking some of her own handwork and having it matted and framed.

I personally think the artwork is too much for the room esp given it is a large piece. Since your daughter sounds artistic how about finding a fun way to display some of her art. A cable type system that you could clip and change art out - a fabric board, a magnetic board.

The room could use some bold pops of color to bring it alive. Take some of the bolder color in that lovely bedding - like the bright pink and have accents carry throughout the space - throw pillows, a fabric treatment above the woven shade, some ceramic pieces - wrap some books with pink paper & put them under the lamps
