Have you got the look? The 'art' of hanging paintings in groups..
Comments (77)Add me to the list of those who love this thread. Five or so years ago I found myself at a New Years Eve party at the home of a sculptor and painter. Within a few minutes of arriving, I understood the joy of living with a lot of art. A number of my friends are professional artists, and I'm fortunate that they've been generous. Plus my mother was an artist, and I'm an avid photographer. So I have lots of meaningful pieces on my walls. But this house doesn't have all that many walls (some were removed, plus we have big windows), and now my cousin, a painter, has started sending me wonderful portraits of the two of us as children, as well as paintings of my gardens. And I've been working on my dad's eminently frameable b&w photographs from the 1940s. Oy! Where will I put everything?? With your help, I'm sure I'll think of something.... Comments (58)Carson...thx! Your place is looking gorgeous as well. I love all you trim detail going up. Zoe....thx! Your place is coming along beautifully, too. I love all the arches that you have throughout your home. For perspective, it took our builder around 2 months after cabinetry was installed to our completion date. Builder wouldn't give us a projected move in date until that point, too. Mrsb...love the light fixture! Michelle...thx...that was exactly my goal. I worried with changing our color tones from warm beiges to cooler tones that it would look cold but the BM reverve pewter is one of those great neutrals that combines both. Our baseboards are 9" with the room height being 9' Mattiepies...I love my BM reverve pewter! For my basement vanity I used BM la Paloma...looks much cooler but no blue undertones. CZscrap...looks like some beautiful views! Dreamer16...looks like a beautiful classic brick home Juniper...think your trim looks great! I agree with Amberm that once your stone goes up any thought of white will go away. I also think the white would have been too stark with the dark windows. Are you carrying the creamy tones into your interior trim? I think that it would bring some continuity to it instead of jumping to something really white inside...See MoreProgress on my DD's apartment & need advice on adding a coffee table
Comments (26)It seems like another trip to IKEA to purchase the Vittsjo (don't you just love all the names there?) will be coming up soon! Good point, joanie, about the rectangles already in the room and the potential for more rectangles with frames on the wall. She is happy with the way it's coming along. After she added the rug and the pillows, she said it feels homier. She is anxious to finish off the basics with the coffee table, a different lamp for the end table and something on the wall above the sofa so she can start planning a holiday open house! I think she'd eventually like to replace the rocking chair with an upholstered chair, but in the meantime, it's extra seating....See MoreArtwork placement thoughts
Comments (62)Everdebz, to answer your questions... I don't know how big my dining table is (I haven't seen it in 1.5 years). It seats 6 comfortably or 8 if you crowd the ends. I prefer to keep it to 6. Yes, I am still looking for large scale, abstract, minimalistic art in any colors except red and yellow. I especially like black (if there was a darker color it would be my favorite), grey, dark to medium purple, and dark or rust orange. I'm not a huge fan of whimsical or fantasy. I wouldn't do 3 paintings to make 1 or have something that yells modern cliche to me. I would say I have a thousand dollar taste on a five hundred dollar budget, every time I see some thing I love, I wish it were about half the price. I do understand artists and art dealers need to make a buck but I think my expectations thus far exceed my pocketbook's depth. :)...See Morebac717
