Do you like these WTs for my DD's room?
Comments (24)Funny so many don't seem to like the sheer look, but when I checked the PB teen website just now, almost all the WTs were sheer panels. As much as I like Les' idea, I'm looking for something readymade. While I do sew, I have fabric sitting around for two projects I've yet to complete: pillows for DD2's daybed, and some WTs and chair covers for my home office. I guess I'll just wait for DD to return tomorrow and see what her preference is. Perhaps when she sees everything else in place, it'll be easier for her to make a choice. betteratthelake: I notice the peace sign look is very "in" right now. My DD is 15-years: we usually do not agree on style for her room, I'm still shocked this one came together so easily. I never liked the vibrant orange she had set her heart on a few years ago and the apricot color in the first pic was a compromise nether of us liked. This time I decided to try my best to satisfy her craving for color. Once she mentioned a vibrant blue, I knew it was something I could work with and was pleasantly surprised when she liked my suggestion to pair it with black & white. A much more sophisticated combination and I must say, on my own, I would not choose such a vibrant color, but once I saw that swatch, I knew it would be perfect for her and once she saw the sample wall, she told me how much she loved the color. So, hopefully, she'll like the end result when she sees it tomorrow and enjoy adding her own little personal touches. And keep it clean!...See MoreProgress on DD's apt - part 2 (coffee table added, next up lamp & art)
Comments (8)I think she could do better on the lamp. Her colors are warm so I don't see how silver fits, and I think the base and the shade are too close to the wall color. It doesn't feel like the rest of the room so it kind of serves the purpose of throwing one thing different into a room just for the sake of creating an eclectic look or for "interest". I pick up a cottage vibe with the wood table and bookcase and pillows. I think a rattan lamp might be nice with the sofa color and to add some organic texture to the room. Has she tried putting the bookcase flat against the wall? Then she could do another lamp and table. The bookcase is "posed" for photos and for view when entering, but I think it'd look more natural if it was positioned facing the seating....See MorePossible coffee table - need advice on painting it
Comments (11)I'd grab that table. It would be easy to change to brass. I honestly don't feel you could mess it up. Get a spray primer for metal. Rustoleum or Krylon would be fine. Rust-oleum American Accents bright metallics spray paint in Gold. I think that looks pretty good on it's own, but I would also use Rub N Buff in Antique Gold. I've did a layering technique on a mini chandelier with Rust-oleum Metallic in Antique Brass Metallic and added some Rub N Buff in the Antique Gold. I've also used straight up Antique Gold Rub N Buff, but think the spray paint first would be easier. ETA This bird was brown and blue and I used the Rust-oleum American Accents bright metallics in Gold after primer. I think this would look good by itself though I still might use the A.gold Rub N Buff for a little more dimension. The mini chandelier is in the attic and I couldn't find it. The R. in Antique Brass Metallic is a little more bronze in color and you'd have to definitely do some layering with at least the Rub N Buff, IMO. Here's Antique Gold Rub N Buff I used on the corners of picture frames. I also ran a tiny bit along the edges. It can be uneven on wider surfaces as you can see here. I could have blended it better, but I taped off and did this quick and was fine with how it looked for this space. It doesn't look like crap unless you make a point to stare and compare close up. I did a search a long time ago where a blogger compared three different brass paints. They all looked good, but the best one, I believe Kryon, was in a small can I couldn't find anywhere locally. My3dogs - Just looked at your link. I agree their lamp looks really great! I was mainly trying to show the colors, but that also shows how you can rub and blend the Rub N Buff out so it's not streaky. Now I'm sitting here wondering what I can give a makeover!!...See MoreFicus Alii recovery in progress - advice requested
Comments (38)Got it, thanks for that feedback Veronika. I think that you guys are right about the location being too low light. I'm working on improving the lighting situation for the plant. I live in a 3 apartment home, I am in the middle. So I have that window in the front that was pictured and the sliding door in the back of the place with a smaller kitchen window. My plan is getting this plant in the front window, removing the blinds and relying on curtains for privacy at night. I can leave a portion of the curtains open at night so it gets morning light right off the bat, then open the curtains when I wake at 7:30. Unfortunately, my home is surrounded by trees (I live in NE Pennsylvania). I wish the time of year was more ideal to leave the plant outside. Would you say I may be well served to put it outside if the temps will permit throughout the day, and just bring it in when I get home around 6:30pm? We still have a bit of mid to high 60's around here for the time being. If that's a possible approach to give it some much needed constant light, what temps should I be sure to keep it out of (nothing below 60 say?). Thanks in advance....See Morebac717
