Wiring Bathroom for TV what wires to put in?

I am wiring the bathroom for TV and was going to use the standard coxial cable but someone mention CAT5 and HDMI cable.

What to do? I like to have HDTV wired for future needs but still using analog TV and will be for some time; only due to limit channesl that have HDTV shows. DishNetwork will not wire any HD wires for me unless I change my subscription over to HD - charge an additional $20 a month; $200 for new receiver and $100 for service call for rewiring. New installs is $300.00 for bathroom since there is no existing cable connection there, in additional to rewiring the house with HD wires. Thus total cost will be high $600 for just the inital cost and $20 a month more! 2 year contract too!

So I decided to do it myself! What do I do? What types of wires do I use for future uses other then Coxial?

WHile you're pulling the regular RG6 (coax for standard def) why not run the cat 5 (well go cat 6) and the HD cable too? The outlay for the cable itself will be not that big, compared to the future benefits. You just need a standard wall plate for now, tuck the other cables in behind it. According to electrical regs, you shouldn't run the cable between the same two studs as any power cables.

Talk to several people in the profession and they say just install a RG6. Nothing else is needed for the bathroom. That is want I am going to do. Cat 5, 6 is for data - don't need; HDMI is for connecting to video equipment sources like DVD players.

Just makes the job easier. Video WIFI will be introduced in the U.S. in the next few years. Been in the Far East for 3 years already!

I believe a more detailed answer is that the bathroom receptacles must be either a) on a circuit that feeds only loads in that bathroom or b) on a circuit that feeds only bathroom receptacles, possibly in multiple bathrooms. But this is a poor choice because of the likelihood of simultaneous hair appliances tripping the breaker. Lighting and fan can be on either the circuit referred to by (a) or on another circuit that feeds other rooms, but not (b). The heater load will be subject to the 80% derating rule for continuous loads (sometimes stated as 125% ampacity required). So 4800*0.80 is 3840 watts maximum load. You have 2500 allocated here. You are ok but don't have as much margin as you might think.

The hot "white" wire is tradition for the feed from a switch loop (this is OK). The white going to the bare grounds is NOT OK. My guess is that originally this only had the switchloop in it (probably for the light alone) and someone kludged in the fan circuit as a non-switch loop. The problem is while there was a hot in the box, there was no neutral so the IDIOT connected the fan neutral to the ground. You need to fix this: 1. Either run power (hot, neutral, ground) to the fan and use what's running to that box as a switch loop (similar to what you have for the light switch) -or- PREFERABLY Run proper power (hot, neutral, ground) to the switch box for the fan. This is actually what is required by the later codes.

First thing is DON'T listen to folks unless they are knowledgeable in that field. The person that told you to simply change the breaker is a fool! See what is actually on that circuit. Adding a 250W heat lamp will not overload the circuit unless it is close already with what is always on. You can have potentially 40 amps worth of load, it's just that not everything is on at the same time. There are no heaters or bath receptacles on this circuit, are there?

From the load side of the GFCI to the switch - hot (black) wire to the common. From the switch, the three 12/2 cables going out. Black wire connected to each of the three screws. Connect the white (neutral) coming in from the GFCI to the three neutrals going up to the fixture. Label everything so you don't get confused up at the fixture. Make up your connections at the fixture. Ground wires need to be connected in each box and to the devices/fixtures. You need to consider box fill with that many cables you'll need somewhere around a 23 sq. in. box. That rules out any kind of rectangular "switch" box. You'll need to use a deep 4" square box and a mud ring.

I have cable. NO HD service, that I pay for.
I have an LCD in the bedroom. I get about six HD channels with my regular service, through the existing (was here when I moved in) RG59. All I did was install the LCD TV in place of my old CRT TV.

Future? My "future proof" is having a basement and attic to run new lines as I need them.
