I'd like to monitor our energy use in our new home. I've been thinking about putting some current transducers like these on the mains coming in to our main electric panel:

Those devices generate a 0-5 VDC signal based on the amount of current passing through the cable running through them. I already have a way to measure the voltage with my computer and produce nice graphs and etc.

I'm having a little trouble with the math though. I think I can get the total of 120V loads just by measuring the current on the neutral. But if I want to include 240V loads as well, I think I'll need to measure both hots as well. Does anyone have a formula to calculate the total load given the currents on both hots and the neutral?

Also, anyone know of products that are made for this kind of thing out of the box, before I go homebrew something?
