AFCI requirements for 2005 nec

OK, so I know under the 2005 NEC, that AFCI are required for bedrooms. But what I want to know is does code only apply to receptacles? Would lighting also be required or could they run on a separate standard breaker?

From all that I can read it is unclear to me if the 2005 code only covers bedroom receptacles. The reason I car is that I don't have enough space in my subpanel (and main panel) to run AFCI on bedroom lights. I was going to use the dual-breakers that fit in a single slot (my panel supports this)

I forget the name right now becasue by 4yr daughter is currently jumping on my back as I attempt to type ;)

As a follow up question... When exactly does the 2008 NEC go into effect. Is it literally Jan 1st 2008, or is it in effect now wince the 2008 NEC has already been published?

Thanks

Shade
