Square D QO tandem breaker--circuit-limiting or non-CTL

Hi Folks,

I have added 4 tandem breakers to the Square D QO breaker panel box we have in our early 70's-built house. But, despite what the folks told me at the electrical wholesale place here in town, there are apparently different kinds of tandem breakers: those for use in a "circuit-limiting or CTL" box (apparently anything made after about 1967 or 68--and our box says it is circuit-limiting) and those for non-CTL boxes. Well, they sold me the non-CTL tandem breakers and told me that was the only kind made. Well, since I'd had a couple of the tandem breakers they sold me in the box for several years w/o difficulty, I went ahead a bought two more.

Later, an Internet search reveals that CTL tandem breakers are at least advertised for sale for Square D QO CTL breaker panel boxes. So, should I replace the ones I've got with the correct items or does it not matter? As I have no notion what the difference may be electrically, I don't know if this is important or not.

Thanks for whatever you can tell me.

John
