What color pic frames with SW Blonde?

Hi, I've posted a couple of times before, and everyone was so helpful..My living room was recently painted SW Blonde. The window trim is a creamy white, curtains are pearl/ivory color. I went to hang my black picture frames back up, and they do not seem to go with the color scheme! They look very harsh next to the curtains. With that said, what color options do I have? I have one framed piece that is bronze color, but I thought that would be too much if I'm doing a gallery look to one wall.

I have Blonde and my black looks great with it.

Maybe your matting is too much of a bright white. Do you have any pics?

thanks, I'll see if I can take pics today. I think it's the black right next to the drapes. My room is all windows (5). The room is very monotone-the sectional is light camel color, club chair is leather and entertainment center and bookcase are mahogany color and rattan chair is dark honey. Maybe because I have no black in the room?

We're building a new home, and I've been wandering around into all the model homes (ones that range from $600-$900k) I can find in the area for inspiration (color-wise). My favorite so far uses Blonde for the dominant color (the LR and the DR each use the darker colors--Mannered Gold and/or Restrained Gold). At first, I thought the ceiling was the lighter color, Ivoire, but the best I could tell after further examination, it was painted Blonde throughout. The trim, then, was the lightest on the strip, Navajo White. Looks fantastic! What about repainting your ceiling in either the Blonde or Ivoire and then using the Navajo White as the trim?

I have both Blonde and Ivoire in parts of my house and ended up using Navajo White (the top color on the Blonde strip) on the ceiling. It reads white, but is nice and warm. It is so chameleon, I used it on every one of my ceilings throughout the house.

Princesssusan--I was in search of "that color" too! I think I tested about 25 varying shades/versions of that color. My favorites, though quite different from each other were BM 'Audubon Russet' (but too dark for where I was going to use it--a basement room) and Laura Ashley 'Spice' (you can find a paint chip at Lowe's), which won out, matched in SW paints. 'Spice' is what I call a "dusty pumpkin" color. The 'Audubon Russet' would more probably match the color of the building in your picture as it's a dusty brownish brick color. When I tried lighter "versions" of AR, they were too pink, according to my husband.....so that's why we ended up with a lighter, but more orange, color. On my monitor, the upper left paint chip you have looks similar to my 'Spice'. I'm about ready to give my kitchen a paint job, and the first color my husband suggested was 'Spice', and after trying other samples, I think it will be used there too. By the way, I'm a HUGE 'Blonde' fan and would like to use it in my kitchen, but I don't know how well it would go with gray (color of my countertops) or the soft smokey gray of the walls in the adjacent great room. thank u so much for your help! :) jessicaml, that's good advice about picking a color u like best at the time you'll see it most. i might hav to change these cfls and go warmer like u said. chocolatebunny, thanks for comparing the 2 colors for me... i think i'm leaning more toward blonde. mamiebella, that's so impressive that u have these colors. thank you so much for that picture!! i feel the same way about macadamia, it felt blah to me. ww looks a bit drab to me in the room. honestly, blonde makes me feel happy :) (maybe bc it takes me back to good memories in our townhouse!) i don't actually have humble gold on the morning rm wall yet, but it's one of the colors we're pretty darn sure about (or else dh will be so mad at me, lol). but now that i'm leaning toward blonde, i may have to change up our choice for the hallway/foyer color. it was believable buff, which was on the ww color strip, but now i may need to go w/ ivoire from the blonde color strip... what do u think? omg, dh is going to hate me, lol!!!

I also have black frames with my Blonde, but have many other darker accessories, curtains, etc that helps pull it together.

Maybe a chery wood?? What color are you tables/entertainment pieces in that room?

the wood is mahogany color. The black frames I currently have are very thick. Do you think I should try thinner black frames?

I would probably stick with the mahogany tones for your frames if your room is going towards a monochromatic scheme already.... pictures would definitely help though =)

no black? yep, that would be it. a black frames gallery with the warm tones you describe would stick out. Match the mahogany or honey wood tones already in the room - if you are stuck with the frames you have, grab a can of spray paint in whatever metal you have used, like the bronze. The key is repetition of other elements in the room...you want the focus on the pics, not the frame....

Did you have any success with the gallery wall? I am thinking of something similar, but on the Ivoire paint. I have b/w photos, but was thinking either black or dark cherry frames.

When I've had a similar problem I bought a tube of gilding paint in an antique gold and brushed it on my frames with a watercolor brush. I've even just used my fingers at times. I don't usually put the color on solidly but more in a streaky fashion. It lightens up the frames considerably and will help them to blend in with your curtains. Michael's or Aaron Brothers or other art or craft stores have these tubes and it's a lot cheaper than buying new frames. I can't tell you how many plain brown and black frames I've "gilded" with this method. It really works!

Love the idea of gilding -- check out Rub n Buff as well as they have colored tints along with the standard silver/gold/bronze.

Given the windows, light colors etc don't shy away from a colored frame if it works with what's *in* the frames. A deeper sage, midtone olive, or medium greyed green, a slate-y or "spa" blue, or a medium-to-darker grey could help balance out the lightness of the wall and sofa colors with the darker wood pieces.

[I have a close color to Blonde in a hall and my office but I'm not much help as I have a lot of black/dark tones nearby or in the room. Black, dark reddish brown, and orange frames work for me.]

loribee, you have an absolutely gorgeous home. It's elegant and grand and yet warm and in inviting at the same time. Beautiful use of color and love the drapes.
