A truly wonderful posting today by Joni Webb at her "Cote de Texas" blog today -- she had added a long posting about using antiques in living rooms and has posted MANY MANY great photos of living rooms! It is another part of her own "Top 10 Design Elements" series!

I took my time and really looked at it this morning while drinking my coffee. I wish she would make her comments NOT SO LARGE, it's really frustrating going across the screen trying to read it.

But I do enjoy her blog and pictures!

Lovely post with lovely inspiration photos. I especially appreciated her emphasis that an 'antique' can be a reproduction. Makes getting the look a lot more affordable.

More than one of those photos went in my inspiration file.

Walnutcreek, what a cool lamp! Somehow I'm really seeing that on a buffet or a console table. It would be gorgeous! Suero, that table is lovely. You're right, it's way more than I want to spend, but it's absolutely beautiful, as are all the other things on their web site. I like all the choices of woods and finishes too. Well, the budget's a problem. As is my lack of ability to make a decision. I'm currently stuck between the West Elm nesting coffee table paired with the Ethan Allen end table with drawer; and the Crate & Barrel Sims coffee table & matching end table. (For the second end table in either case, I'm going with that little orange metal table.) I think the wood on the Crate & Barrel tables is much nicer, but the tables themselves are a little boring; in addition the West Elm + Ethan Allen (gads, how many people pair *those* brands together?!) are more practical since they give me a drawer and a de facto shelf or two. Have read not such good things about West Elm quality - not sure if that applies to this table, which is constructed differently from their usual furniture. And it irritates me that I'd have to pay $70 in shipping, for this table!!! (And it doesn't even come assembled!) I don't know - there's the style thing. Maybe I just don't know who I am. I want to project a slightly funkier image than what I think I'm coming up with... maybe it's the carpeting that's the problem. The carpet ain't funky. And the funky furniture on top of the carpet just don't go. The furniture that goes with the carpet ain't so funky. I am *not* a fuddy-duddy! I'm NOT!!! (Or am I???)

I hadn't dropped by the site in a while. Thanks for the reminder. It's funny, to me, that there is so much bashing of formal spaces that look like they couldn't be used or enjoyed. I look at them as if they were a beautiful piece of art. The room on the cover of Michael S Smith is to die for, IMO. It combines warm and cool in a way that is so perfect that it appears artistic. There is no way that the sofa could be comfortable or the side table useful, but I would be elated to just walk into that room on a daily basis. It is stunning.

Thanks for the link to the backsplash. I would have been interested in somthing like that, but I had a sheet metal shop make me a backsplsh (stainless) and bought a Grundtal shelf form Ikea...also got the s hooks! I think it will all be hung tomorrow. Still trying to decide about the canisters in pic..have more of them, but they just are not going to work for me. Maybe my DD could find a place for them I know about the Harwich tile shop. LOVE the items you got from them.I am going to do just a simple subway tile in a brick pattern, but I will go and look at their fabulous selection..As you can tell from my name -nauset (as in beach), I am in Orleans.

I appreciate the effort that goes into her posts and I enjoy the photos. Unfortunately, many of her comments are too gossipy and dramatic for me. I read "Go Fug Yourself" so I am not adverse to a little dish but for some reason some of her posts rub me the wrong way.

I love that there is a distinct emphasis on murals and decorative accessories, like the hand painted screens, the large scale art, the tapestries and painted furniture.

Yeah...definitely some eye candy there...gonna save some of those pics, that is one my favorite blogs. I'm not to wild about the rooms that some people refer to as "timeless" when it seems like they tried to cram as many things in the room that didn't match or have anything to tie the elements together...maybe I need to get in touch with my schizo side more...LOL. She sure doesn't like MCM though...a shame really as it does have great value.

That kitchen with the Swedish table is really beautiful...and give me that Marie Antoinette room any day...breathless!!! Thanks for posting Teacats, truly enjoyable viewing.

I have a book called "The Great Lady Decorators" which covers the decor of ladies like Elsie de Wolfe and Nancy Lancaster...it is a great investment...so wonderful to look at, including tons of pictures like the ones on the Cote de Texas site.

...and now back to my not so extravagantly decorated home...LOL
