Can you just put the last 2 grommets on the other side of the bracket?

I would move them... but more than an inch.

Yuh, what clt3 said. Lift the rod up, slide the drapery over one grommet, and put the rod back down. Easy fix!

I agree with moving the drapery over the bracket. You hide the casing trim AND the bracket.

Suggestion: In the future, always measure to mount the bracket a minimum of 2" from the casing trim.

I don't think grommets can be hung on either side of the bracket.

I would have to say your BF is going to have to move the brackets out several inches.

I was going to post about grommet panel installation as I just finished putting up three 125" rods. I hid all the open inside folds at a bracket. Yes lift up the rod and hide bracket behind panels open space. If you install stationary gromment panels in the MIDDLE of a window the bracket will have to be OFF CENTER, 1 1/2 to 2 inches over, mine are 1 1/2" and the panels are 9" which provides 4 nice folds. Show us a picture of this EASY fix!!

You're probably the only person who would ever notice it, so if it makes you nuts then I would move them.

We did the same thing this weekend. Our curtains are 160" long. DH measured the height and placed the rod at 160". Now the drapes pool on the floor a bit. I'm trying to decide if I like the pooling, or if we need to bump it up a couple inches. At least we haven't painted yet. :)

sewwhatsnew....I'm not following you! Like ctlane said, you can't hang grommets on either side of a bracket. The fabric gets in the way.

I have 2 different sets of grommet curtains and I am able to hang them on either side of the bracket. You need to lift the rod and move one grommet to the outside of the bracket--then put the rod down--the fold will then cover the bracket.

If for some reason you are not able to do this, I would not move the rod unless it really really bugs you. No one else will notice. Live with it for a week or so and see if you still care.

As Kristine says: One grommet, just one, moves over the bracket. Not a pair. The fabric covers the bracket. Nothing gets in the way. The only way for fabric to get in the way is if you tried to move 2 grommets over.

Yes, it will alter the look of the back-and-forth fabric in the middle -- you might not get the center pieces both going the same way, depending on how many grommets there are. But I'd do that rather than have the window casing show.

If you decide you don't like that, then yes, get the BF to reinstall the brackets. But not just 1 inch -- go out 2 inches. You want a screw spot that's far enough away from the original screw hole, which might include a larger-diameter anchor there.

having the wood show would drive me crazy...i would move them 1-2" out...no big deal filling in the holes and they'll be hidden by the drapes!!

You can move the draperies over.

Try it by folding a piece of paper like an accordian, and then poke a hole through with your pen. Your pen represents the rod. Hook the rod over your finger -- your finger represents the bracket.

Actually putting one of the grommets on the outside of the bracket is how they should be hung. In fact, if these are going to be stationary side panels, you could even put more of the grommets on the other side of the bracket and extend the rod out even further if you want. That way you could uncover more of the window. Stationary panels should frame, and not cover the window, except just a bit.

I would fix it somehow and if it means moving the rod then I would do it. But that is me. Seeing the window edge would drive me nuts. But then I'm someone who will rehang a picture and move it 1/8" to have it line up properly.

I agree with PammyFae, Pull out the rod about 5 inches more on each side, lift rod and push 2 grommets over the bracket and you will have the bracket hiding in the open space of the panel, not hitting fabric. Hope this makes sense. You do not have to reinstall your brackets.

I think a lot of people will notice that they are improperly hung.

One way or another, I'd move those drapes farther out. I like every bit of the glass showing when my curtains are open so I would have hung those drapes much farther out to begin with, but that is just me.

I'm a seamstress that specializes in window treatments. The ladies are correct in that you lift the rod slide one grommet to the edge of the finial and place the rod back on the grommet. I never allow a functional bracket to show. Decorative ones maybe, but never a functional bracket if at all possible.
This is how it would look from above the rod as if you were a fly on the ceiling looking down on the rod and grommet panels.

"By George, I think she's got it!" Boy, do I feel dumb. Yeah, the bracket nestles right in there behind the open space. I even tried it with two on the right side of the bracket. My rods are pretty long, so I can do one or two. This forum is so awesome. Thanks for ALL the responses. One last question: should the finial be flush with the grommett or do you want some rod to show?

I think it looks perfect now. I can see why you did not extend the rod beyond the window as then it would crowd your FP. I would scootch the grommit a tad closer to the finial, leaving about 1" between it and the finial.

I just made drapes this past winter and in the LR they go
right up to the finial. There is absolutely no rod showing.
Try it, I think you'll like it.
