Is there a grownup way to add pink to a master bedroom?

Following a bathroom remodel and new carpet & paint in the bedroom -- I'm redecorating my master bedroom. I like the direction it's headed, but I know it still needs some work. When I put some flowers on my dresser the pink really caught my eye.

Is there a grownup way to add pink to my master bedroom? My husband and I are early/mid 40s -- so I'm not a single twentysomething gal.

A pink throw on your bench at the foot of the bed? If you're planning a chair, how about upholstering it in pink and white large buffalo plaid?

Or how about prints or paintings that use pink, white, black and tan?

Pink accent pillow for your bed or chair.

I did just what you describe and I'm tickled pink with it. In my case it WAS a load-bearing wall, but that just meant I had to header off the opening. I created about a four-foot archway between the two sections of the (now one)room - making one section the bed area and one the sitting/dressing area. I can't tell you what it costs since I did it myself, but I really don't think it would be that bad, depending on what needs to be done. I had to move a electrical box and add another (to stay up to code) but it was mostly a framing/drywall job. I would say the most important thing is visualizing the feel/scale of the new room as well as new traffic patterns and usage patterns to come up with a good design. In may case I created a couple of new walk-in closets to keep the scale of the resulting room comfortable. I know I've been in several "de-partition" rooms that feel just like that - two rooms with a wall knocked down.

It's fine to leave the paint for now. I just would not choose future items necessarily based on that color. The color could work......it is just a lot of that one color. What was the reason you chose this color to begin with? What color were you looking to choose? What other colors do you have in your home? Rooms should not all be the same in a home, but there should be a flow and consistency from one room to the other. Here is a possible color scheme for you, using the desert as your backdrop.

Keep playing with drawing til something makes sense. I tried to sketch something out, let's see if I can attach it. Did you want to add a tub, or just a bigger shower? If windows can be added to the left wall, it would really add more possibilities! I made the bigger closet skinny so the window light still comes in. This loses the hall closets so it may need more work. I am not a big fan of the hall between the closets, it was my attempt to keep the window. Either of the closets where the master was could be removed to be a sitting area or a desk area. Obviously I am not a professional. I just like looking at and thinking about floor plans. I am sure others will jump in to improve my sketch by criticizing it lol. I left the toilet and one sink in place. I think the shower could use the same drain and it would not be too bad to extend the pipes to make it bigger, and add the second sink. The entry point is a bit crowded but I was having trouble adding a second sink if I made the bathroom door by the closets.

Multiple thoughts, not all in line with the majority: - Five bedrooms is a huge house. The potential field of buyers who want the space and upkeep of a house that large (and who can afford it) is relatively small. More plainly, You're looking to build a house that only a small percentage of buyers can afford to buy. Wanting a thing and being able to afford a thing aren't the same. Your pool of resale buyers will be small, so selling could take a long time, or you might be forced to take less than you want. - Yes, people will like the idea of a "master up and a master down": live-in space for mom, space for a live-in nanny or elder care-giver. Plenty of reasons people would like the space. But the real question is, Will your resale buyer be willing to pay what it will cost you to build it? Personally, I think you'll attract plenty of interest, but you may not attract the necessary dollars at resale to make this worthwhile. - How old are these small children? By the time you finish building this house, they'll probably be at least a year older -- how long will you want to have bedrooms close by? - I'm a highly practical person: you're talking about a short time when kids are small. To save money, could you sleep in a "non-master" upstairs for this short time, then move downstairs? - How "master" do you see your "masters"? That is, when you say "master bedroom", are you envisioning a slightly larger room with a modest walk-in closet and a private 3-piece bath ... or does "master" to you mean a spacious room with a seating area, a massive closet and a luxury bath? The question isn't just, "Should I have two masters?" It's, "Just how much will I put into a master?" Your own vision of "how much" can make a world of difference in this question. - Don't overbuild for your neighborhood. Remember that the biggest, most expensive house in the neighborhood is "drawn down" by the more modest houses that surround it. - Summary: Don't be caught up in just whether this is a desirable idea -- it is. Consider first and foremost whether it is an economically viable idea.

Unless you want to buy original art, I would get a Wolf Kahn canvas giclee framed in a thin, modern frame. Many of his works are predominantly pink and absolutely lovely.
A big one would look fab in your lovely room without being twee or stuffy.
He's one of my favorites.

There are lots of pinks that are soft and sophisticated, and would look lovely with your neutrals.

Just stay away from anything that looks like candy, baby girl dresses, Pepto-Bismol, Barbie, My Little Pony, or a muppet.

I disagree, brow. I think the treatment is more important than the color. Last years HB with the pink cover featured many Hot pinks that were very sophisticated.

Art.com has a number of Wolf Kahn giclee prints. I just purchased my first framed print from that site and was very pleased. I never thought I would buy and frame a print online, but it was just a small one, exactly what I wanted for my guest bath, so I gave it a try.

A pink bedroom doesn't have to be like this.

Pink and chocolate is a very grown up palette when the pink is used as an accent color. Think about doing a dust ruffle or a wallpaper accented wall. Look for some fabric samples that have this combo as inspiration as to proportions.

My master bedroom is predominantly gray and ivory but I wanted some pink, too. I found this duvet and shams at Cuddledown (they don't seem to have the duvet anymore) that has a lot of pink but it's a nice "grown up" pink. Now I'm on the hunt for a few accessories to bring a bit more pink in the room, and it's not very easy to find the "right" shade.

I think pink is a great accent in neutral spaces - adding several tones from light to dark will help prevent the saccharin rush that might occur. If you add it in the bedroom, you might be able to pull it through the house in small doses without your hubby freaking out. This home in England shows how it can be done in a chic, sophisticated way... the neutral in this case is gray, but beige would work too.

I've added pink to our bedroom but it's subtle enough not to be girly.

The first thing I'd do is find a lightweight quilt with pink in it to fold at the end of the bed and work from there. It's amazing what one folded blanket with color can do for a whole room when it's on the end of a bed to match accessories with.

Any pink can be sophisticated depending on how much you use of certain shades. The good thing is all shades of pink goes well together so you don't have to be limited on one shade.

You could go a bit funky like me and get a pink Princess telephone for your side of the bed. I also have a deep pink Moon Clock. :)

Also check out Restoration Hardware Baby/Child (link from main RH site) and look at girls' bedding for some beautiful pinks. Yes, I'm serious. My master bedroom quilt, in gray, is from this line. Same quality as RH but I paid a lot less. Their kids' bedding comes in queen size. But I'm thinking if this as a resource if, say, you just wanted to add a couple of pink pillow shams.
