Your colors (all of them!) are fabulous. And yes, you'll have to prime. In a past house when (re)painting a room a burnt orange color, I didn't prime first (the original color was burgundy). I thought for sure it would be a piece of cake! More like a piece of crap pie. I cannot count high enough to tell you how many coats of the beautiful orange I had to put on the wipe out the grey-green which, somehow, the orange pulled out of the burgundy. It still makes no sense to me.

But prime prime prime! Save yourself the head-, heart- and arm- ache(s).

"Crap pie" - LOL! Thanks for the input. I was thinking I could just be lazy, but based upon your experience, priming sounds like the way to go.

Thanks, Rabbit! I live in Texas and we love traveling to Mexico. Our home is a little old cottage that really lends itself well to a vintage/cottage type of decor, but I chose to go with a very vibrant southwest/Mexican style instead. As you can see in my breakfast room, I ain't a-skeered of color. ;-D

I didn't have the ba... uh, confidence to be so bold in my Southern California condo, where design like that could have worked. I doubt I'll ever have the chance now : )

Love that turquoise, Auntjen!! My only caution is that you have a lot of blues in your artwork... and I'd be afraid that your gorgeous works would blend into the wall. I know you have a lot of artwork-- any chance you could move things around a bit?

Aunt Jen, I think the turquoise would look awesome with the other colors you have going on! I'm gonna disagree about the need to prime. IMO, your dark green will work as a primer. When I painted several rooms red, I primed in a charcoal gray, although paint 'expert' at HD said I should use *pink*. He asked me why gray and I told him that painting another light color on top of the current light color made absolutely no sense. Of course he thought I was a little snippy b-atch, who knew everything, but stood my ground on the charcoal. It only took two coats of red and it covered very evenly. Your green looks to have the same depth as the charcoal I used.

So, BEFORE you even start priming, find the shade of turquoise you like and give it a try. I'll really be surprised if you need to prime, and I promise i'll eat crow, but only if it's TX bar-b-q style. ;o)

Seriously, my concern is the same as funkyart's. I think your artwork and wall hangings will get lost on the turquoise walls.

Me? I would do the kitchen walls in the turquoise - fabulous with the red cabinetry and trim! Also a nice companion color with the green in the DR.

I think those green walls are gorgeous, the turquoise would be more predictable, and matched to your accessories and art, not that it wouldn't be very nice.

I dare say this since you say you are only "toying" with the idea.

I agree with Mitch and Les, the green walls are a fantastic back drop for all your artwork and the vibrant colors you have in the room.
I would toy with the idea of doing the breakfast room Turquoise instead. Your home is gorgeous, unique and cozy.

If you do go with a primer, get it tinted the turquoise color. Any primer can be tinted and it'll help ensure good coverage.

If turqoise is in your heart then turqoise it should be.

My only suggestion is to switch out some of your art just like others have already posted.

Prime, definitely prime. Sherwin Williams paint tells you specifically what color (or white) primer to use with the final color. So even if you aren't going to use SW, find a similar shade there and inquire about tinted vs white primer.

That is a stunning shade of turquoise, but as others have said, the current wall color looks really great with the turquoise accents on the wall.

If I was as bold as you Jen I would paint my whole downstairs in that color. It is gorgeous! Maybe you can paint some on a piece of sheetrock and hold your artwork up against it? Although If I remember correctly you are usually one that is painting before you actually even finish saying I am thinking off...... :)

We've had to paint over several boldly painted rooms in a house we bought. White mixed with 1 oz of black was able to provide the best cover for all colors including one that was simular to the green color in your picture.

And for the affirmation that the turquoise is a lovely color, but I do see what you mean about how my artwork might become a bit lost w/that color as a backdrop. Dekr8, thank you, thank you, thank you for the mock-up! That helps tremendously! I am in love with that color, but I'm just not sure that I want to have to rearrange paintings after-the-fact. I do still love the green -- it's just that the turquoise "speaks" to me (as silly as that may sound)! Hmmmm ... maybe I could use the turquoise in the hallway which is just off the dining room. My workout room opens onto the hallway and it's painted in a lighter turquoise shade, but I guess that would be ok?

Take a look at BM Sioux Falls (#705)...it's a deeper turquoise. It might work for you and not compete w/your art. We just did our LR/DR and it looks so rich. Love it!

Suzieca, that is a nice color -- but maybe a little too subdued for what I had in mind. Do you have a pic of how it looks in your home? Searching the BM colors yielded this as well, and I like this shade a lot.

Ooooh, that is a gorgeous shade! Looks really good with your things too. Thanks for the pics! I do think I'd want to go a tad deeper in my DR ... still liking that BM Bermuda Turquoise above (a lot!). Here's the color in my workout room, which is right off the hallway (to be considered if I chose to go w/a turquoise shade in the hallway instead of DR). I wonder how careful I'd have to be about clashing hues?

Auntjen, for each piece of your artwork, cover a board or canvas with *different* color fabric, and situate the art onto that. It will add more impact to each piece.

I'm still for the turquoise, so I guess i'm in the minority. ;o)

I think turquoise would look FABULOUS in your breakfast room. I'd repaint the door, trim, chair rail, etc in that colour instead of the plummy colour. And I'd paint the yellow walls white.

I think your dark sideboard, painting and other art, table and floors would all really look fabulous against the white and turquoise. That's maybe more of a Spanish than Mexican look, but I think it would really suit your furnishings and accessories.

Just for one more option... ;-)

That said, I like your green room as is, and I also really like the gold-red combo for your dining room.

Any other rooms we could collectively try out the turquoise in? It seems such a "you" color to me, and will be so beautiful in your wonderful house.

Yaaaayyyyyyy, I finally have my computer back! I LOVE that turquoise Jen! I too was concerned that some of your art may disappear but as one of the previous posted\rs mentioned, if you could just frame those pieces out or color block the art I think that it would look perfect.

That's a cool idea about "color-blocking" the artwork, although I don't know if my limited wallspace would really allow for that. Hmmmm ...

I really don't want to change the color of my breakfast room/kitchen area. I like its present color combo -- makes me feel happy everytime I walk into that space. :-)
