Oh, to be young again and living in Manhattan.

I just painted my wainscoting this very week. The bottom I painted vanilla custard by Behr. Sorry to say I can't help with the green. But these ladies on here seem to know a lot about different shades of green.

I actually like his sofa.

His furniture is GORGEOUS.

The colors we used in our dining are California Paints "Jewett White" (on the bottom) and California Paints "Jackson Antique" (on the top). The Jewett White is a very creamy, slightly off-white, and the Jackson Antique shifts throughout the day. Both are from the Historical Collection.

P.S. In fact, you can see in the photo I posted how the light changes the color of "Jackson Antique." It's a great color. :)

Thanks Organic for that photo. Do you think Jackson Antique color mixed with the gold window treatments and the green chairs and that great orangy sofa of his would all meld OK together.

I think a red and gold room would be nice, if he likes color.

lyban: Yes, I think it would go well. It would all depend on whether he likes it, of course. :) And whether he wants a light and airy feel or a cozier one. I thought about using it in my room. It's still a possibility--or French Grey by F&B. I'm thinking of the other thread with the 100 Designer Tips, in which one designer said every house should have at least one dark and cozy room, so maybe my study should be that room. :)

Well, what he tells me he would like to do is put a creamy off-white on the bottom wainscott and then a very subtle stripe wallpaper on top. (maybe in a green tone)
I am afraid that in that room with the colors of the furniture and window treatments it will look to busy.
Any opinions anyone?

I'm in love with your brother's sofa. It's nice to see a man who is not afraid of pattern or wallpaper.

Without seeing the furniture and window treatments in person, it is hard to suggest a paint color.

Going with the wallpaper idea, I like the the cream/white on the bottom and a subtle texture (stipes look too dining room and traditional, IMO)with some of the colors, on the top.

There are some beautiful papers out now.

I also love that couch. My brother tends to see something and buy it and then he has alot of nice things but they don't necessarily all fit together in one room.
He is used to having a whole house and being able to make things fit in some place in a house but now with a one room condo to decorate in the middle of the village in Manhattan he seems to be doing the same thing with his buying and now this is what he has. Now when he mentions this idea of wallpaper, I personnaly think, oh no not with all the different colors of furniture. I think all his furniture could work together but now is the time he has to stop with pattern and go quiet on walls but I am no decorator so feel that I had to ask here to see what others think.

First I would consider replacing the window treatment. That would make everything else so much easier plus it would update the windows.
