stupidity

So I just need to make you all laugh by my dh ex's stupidity! For those of you who have not seen my previous posts my DH and I raise his 3 kids from his previous marraige. Their mom found a new guy (while still with my dh) and moved out of state and has little to do with the kids. She has the ocassional phone calls, and before she moved to the other side of the country she saw them maybe once a month-sometimes a little more or less. She has NEVER paid for child support or given us any money to help with anything with the kids.

She called last week and told the kids that she is pregnant yet again! Of course my middle sd is jumping up and down all excited, the oldest had this look of disgust on her face, and the youngest could have cared less. Can I just say how funny I find it that a lady who has to live with her parents and can not even afford to pay child support, or any of the marital debt that she created while with my dh years ago, manages to get pregnant again (she just had another kid less than a year ago!) I am thinking that maybe in her state they do not sell birth control?? After 4 kids (3 with my dh and 1 with next boyfriend), and 2 miscarriages (with boyfriends), and not being married you would think that OOPS I AM PREGNANT would not happen again! I thought that cochroaches multiplyed fast!

The real kicker is that she is trying the get the girls to send any baby clothes we have around the house to her for this new baby! The middle and oldest one had a few fancy outfits from when they were a baby that my dh has saved and packed away in our basement and their mom told them that they should send them to her!!

"She loved having babies but she didn't want children."

Maybe her parents can talk to her about having tubal ligation when the new baby is born.

I know what it is like to be a new canner, because I am one. In my humble opinion, the only stupid question is the one left unasked. The goal here is to make a product that you can safely to put on yours or your families/friends table with confidence. Again, ccaggiano IMHO it is not stupid to ask any question that you are unsure of and I for one and truely grateful that there are people here who are willing to help us do it safely. There is so much to learn and there is no better place to learn than from those who have been there, done that. We are not born knowing this stuff, that doesn't make a question stupid. Unless you didn't measure something accurately, there should be no problems. Sugar can have something added to it before its added to the rest of the mixture. In some cases sugar needs to be dissolved before the pectin is added anyway. even if its damp and clumping it should dissolve just fine in the liquid. If you didn't use any pectin and expect that the jam will set without its use, that would depend on how much natural pectin is already in the fruit. If its high, it should still be fine, if its low, you would have to bring the mixture to a boil for a while so that it can reduce moisture and help the natural pectin set. Even if it doesn't set (usually after about 15-25 days with added pectin) you can open each jar and reprocess using some pectin at that time. Being as accurate on ingredient amounts and quantities can vary, only because your making somthing from a source that could be sweet, sour, or low pectin, as well as its acidity. All these factors need to be considered in ANY recipe. Some people don't like a lot of sugar in jams or jellies, so they use less. If this is done, and no added or required pectin is added, the mixture may never set up. Jelly isn't really a difficult thing to master. Heck, I make yeast breads and muffins without any recipes of any kind. Been doing it so long, I can usually tell what is needed. Visual, taste, and smell are all needed to give you what you desire, as to an end result. Good luck. Always TASTE what you make before committing it to canning jars. Hi! Just a quick note on planting times for daylilies..I have had a lot of luck with planting in the Fall also; it's a great time to get good deals at the garden centers, and also works out well when I need to divide and transplant, as I'm not so busy as in the Spring! Just do the usual cutting-back of the foliage, and be sure they get enough moisture before the ground freezes. The plants should be well-established by Spring, and you should get flowers, depending on the size of the scape. I have ordered online with success, but my favorite place to visit locally (I live between Rochester and Buffalo)is a place in Shelby called Cottage Gardens. They have a website also; just Google them..Happy gardening!

NHB: The nerve of that woman. I cannot believe it! My kids have done a few garage sales too and it's amazing how many people like to take advantage of kids. I had people trying to make all kinds of deals with my kids and I finally had to tell a few people that they had priced things to sell (like 25 cents or $1 per item). It's why I mostly donate stuff to charity or resell myself on CL. Yesterday, I had arranged for a charity to pick up some stuff on my curb. They said to put out at 7AM with a tag on it which I did and by the time they arrived, my stuff was all taken. DH said probably they needed it, but still I felt like the stuff was stolen as it was not put out with a "free" sign on it, but a tag for a cancer charity and I felt just terrible when the truck arrived and my stuff was all gone. :( Stinkers!

wow - eerily similiar situation to what I'm dealing with. The prolific BM I'm dealing with has 3 kids - all different dads and another little sticky bun in the oven. No telling how many abortions and miscarriages she's had - but we know it's at least 2 of each.

I believe it's a sickness for some women, and really quite sad. The fact that there are so many women like this who refuse to get help for themselves is almost heart breaking. The real victims are their kids and anyone else who dares get close to offer help. This week she's decided to give up on any relationship with my SS and move out of state with her latest baby-daddy. So long, farewell.

Now we're just bracing for the hard questions from SS and trying to get him through it. Trying to explain why he won't get to see his new sibling will be tough - he really wants a sibling, but maybe one day we'll give him one in a happy home. Hard stuff to explain to a little one though, you know?
