Boy that just Hurts, I feel for you. I am horrible about ridding myself of stuff, and finally assigned myself a requirement to store replaced things for at least 6 months to give myself time to "discover" a new spot, unless the item was stained or easily replaced. A friend of my recently moved to Charlotte, took some gorgeous, expensive custom made curtains with her, after a month, gave them away. And of course 3 months later, got the house together and realized they were perfect. Had to pay to get a new set made. You have two choices - a)kick yourself or b)tell youself confidently that there is something even better coming along and start being open to possibilities....

I know that feeling you're having right now, because although I can't remember any specifics, I know I'd done siimilar things. It happens.

Reminds me of a garage sale I had years ago. My teenage daughters were allowed to put things in the sale, price them, plus keep their proceeds. They had so much stuff, that I didn't look at everything they put in the sale.

On the day of the sale, I was taking up money, when a woman came up with $1 in one hand, and a beautiful pair of expensive leather boots in the other. I almost fainted! The boots had been a gift for one of my daughters,,, just the year before! We wore the same size shoe, so I grabbed the boots and said "these are not suppose to be in the sale." The woman grabbed them back and shoved the $1 in my hand, and said "sorry, too late, they are mine now." UGH...she had me and there was not a thing I could do. :(

NHB: The nerve of that woman. I cannot believe it! My kids have done a few garage sales too and it's amazing how many people like to take advantage of kids. I had people trying to make all kinds of deals with my kids and I finally had to tell a few people that they had priced things to sell (like 25 cents or $1 per item). It's why I mostly donate stuff to charity or resell myself on CL. Yesterday, I had arranged for a charity to pick up some stuff on my curb. They said to put out at 7AM with a tag on it which I did and by the time they arrived, my stuff was all taken. DH said probably they needed it, but still I felt like the stuff was stolen as it was not put out with a "free" sign on it, but a tag for a cancer charity and I felt just terrible when the truck arrived and my stuff was all gone. :( Stinkers!

Oh Budge, that's just a bummer. I feel for you girl...

p.s. The yard sale story was too much. If I told someone that something was not for sale, I would expect it to stick. When you walk away from someone's house with something that they don't want you to have, it's still called stealing.

I frequently shop at Homesense and one thing I have noticed, especially in their rug dept, is that they often get the same rug in stock later on in the month. If I were you I would check throughout the next month to see if another one comes up for sale.

Mel, that's a good thought. My daughter has dance class right next to Homesense, so I get to check them out weekly.

valinsv - Around here, if you put something out on the curb, it's fair game. the curb is considered city property. Our charity trucks come straight to the door to pick up.

Sorry that happened to you, and your charity. You may want to check CraigsList for your items. I have a feeling that they will be on the sale block - somewhere, sometime soon. I don't think that the people that took the stuff needed it for anything more than making money. :(

Speaking of stupid...
I bought the same exact sized flat iron (for my hair) twice! I guess I thought when I went to the beauty supply store for a smaller one it would be obvious which one I had and I would just go down one size. Well, when confronted with so many choices the one that seemed smaller was the same size as the one at home. D'oh! In my defense, it was much smaller than many others on the shelf....but not nearly as small as the one my hair stylist uses.

But it kinda worked out because I keep one in my everyday home and one in my 2nd place. See, these "mistakes" happen for a reason. A better rug is out there waiting for you.
