Suggestions for new paint color for family room? pics

You all have been very helpful as I've gone through my makeover stage during the last few months. I am painting each room in the house as 5.75 years of living and 3 kids are showing somewhat! I figured since I had to do it anyway then a color change was in order.

So far I've done the office and the dining room. These rooms also got new drapes, artwork and rugs. We added wainscoting to the study and will be adding a cofferred ceiling to the dining room next week when DH is on vacation.

I have some ideas for the family room but without influencing you all in any way, I thought I'd post a photo and ask for ideas. The room is currently very earthtone. The walls are a sage green.

The sofa is a creamy white and has to stay, as well as the leather chair and ottoman. DH loves his recliner and it it's not outrageously expensive I would like to have it recovered as it a good quality chair. The rocker could go or be recovered.

So paint, new drapes, a new rug and possibly new art work.

What do you see in here?

Here are the two rooms I've already done...

The dining room ceiling will be painted a gray/green similar to the mats in the artwork on the left and then cofferred. I'm adding decorative plates around the mirror. So this room is still not 100%.

Hi Randi! Wow, what a surprise to see this post pop back up. In fact, I have been away from here for a long time but I just noticed email this morning from your post. Thank goodness that email thing worked! The living room is Benjamin Moore Moroccan Red (1309). The dining room is Benjamin Moore York Harbor Yellow (2154-40). Hope that helps. boxerpups! Wow thanks for all the pictures! I like the idea of gray too. It will work well with our warmth, actually it may tone down some of the warm. OUr cabinets are actually Maple, but they do have an oragnish glow to them that i'd like to tone down! We tried Nomadic Desert and Kilim beige in our home and it was HORRIBLE. Kilim beige looked like silly putty with more pink, and Nomadic Desert looked like really cheap foundation on a girls face.. kinda pinky and too dark. We also tried SW Universal Khaki and it has a gray sheen to it. So far I love it but I think it may have too much green in it; I'm not sure. . I'm going to go to the store tomorrow and get the silver fox! Thanks for the suggestion!

I've been searching for new hardware for the credenza. I need at least a 4" long backplate with a ring, knob or drop. Four inches because Ethan Allen glues it's backplates to their cabinets, as well as uses screws. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get the original hardware off without ruining the doors. This is one that I'm considering from Hardware Hut. Many others I've seen are too short.

After reading the thread about jute/sisal rugs I decided the West Elm rug wasn't the way to go. I found a rug I love on the link mtnrdredux posted. I convinced DD to photo-shop some colors and things for me. Here's the F&B Mouse's Back, although it looks much lighter than the swatch indicates... and the turquoise from the jacket above... I'll take a look at the paints pps suggested tomorrow and see if I can't get her to do some more colors for me. Am I completely off track here?

I love your vase and accent pillow and I was wondering if this room abuts one of your newly painted areas? If it does I love Bm quiet moments next to charcoal grey. I have to say I quite like the present color too. I however understand changing it up. I think a soft blue green would also look nice with the leather chair. I agree with Teacats too that a warm neutral would work nicely and than keep using the turquoise accents. I just love turquoise and grey right now(Have a lot of it in my home at the moment). You have a beautiful home!! I know what ever you do will look wonderful!

I'd go with a much darker color on the walls that have windows and french doors. It will make the fireplace and trim pop more and the natural light will be more stunning. We contemplated a very dark green on our back wall that has 6 windows and a french door across it, but since we did a dark purple in our other walls (den and dining room), we chickened out and did the same pale lavender as the kitchen. I still wonder how the deep green would have looked. We have a completely open plan so we chose to not add yet another color into the living spaces (have 3 colors now covering our kit, lr, dr & den).
I may go bold one day and do it after all.
You might need to change out the drapes at that point. I can picture white ones with the darker walls, but since the drapes are not on that wall, it may not be necessary.

Take a look at BM Bar Harbor Beige. It's a mid-range beige that plays nicely with gray. I just painted my son's room, with a gray carpet, and it looks great.

I vote for BM Tyler Taupe. It will compliment your fireplace and make it more of a feature. It's a warm, cozy colour!

Okay life has gotten in the way of decorating for the last few weeks and I'm just getting back to thinking about the family room. This has been my favorite room in the house thus far, but after changing the dining room and study, I really want to mix this up a little too.

Most of you suggested a darker tone but I really want to lighten it up in here. Here's where I want to go.

Now with my big stone fireplace I won't be able to pull off the formality of this room but I would like to pull in the blue/gray paint color and the orange accents and maybe add a few more things in turquoise.

I know this is a trendy color scheme right now but I've played it safe for 20 years and would like to go in a different direction.

Thoughts?
