I really like the wall color you already have although you might be tired of it by now. Your beautiful inspiration room has a white wood fireplace and I'm afraid your rustic beige stone fireplace might not blend so well with the cooler color scheme in the inspiration picture. I don't know if you would even consider this, but if you were to paint the stone fireplace the same color as the trim on the doors and windows it would be less of an overwhelming presence, would probably brighten the room and would also give you more leeway in choosing a new wall color. Wow, the room you have now is what I inspire to have one day, so obviously I don't think the gray will look as nice. I loooove the fireplace;quartzite stone is my favorite. There's a ton of things I love about the room over all, and not one thing I don't like.

If you plan to make significant changes as you state, i.e., draperies, coverings for furniture, rugs, etc., I think you would be wise to get all the soft items, draperies, upholstery, rugs, etc., done before choosing a paint color. Paint is easy; fabrics that blend and/or match are hard.

I do agree that your stone fireplace might/might not work with cooler tones. I suggest before being smitten by a paint that you will ultimately tire of, that you choose your expensive items first and paint last.

Your current room is very pretty and your aspiration room is pretty as well.

Between what you have now and what you're considering I much prefer the warmth of the former. In fact, if it were me I'd be shooting for something with even more warmth ... not a cooldown like the pewter.

Your new color is very close to SW Rhinestone. I've recently used that color in our office, dining room, living room and kitchen. Absolutely love it! Very light, very elegant. I believe it will work with the fireplace because I've not found a color that doesn't work with Rhinestone. Good luck with your choice. It should help with light issues in your room.

Homeagain, I remember you from the Building A Home forum when we were building (except under a different name, I believe). I loved your home then and I still love it now -- I wouldn't change a thing! I think the current color works better with the stone than the RP.

Can you pull a color from the fireplace? Since that's the most permanent feature, I'd start there.

Homeagain, this is OT, but do you have any info on your beautiful pillow? It's hard for me to tell, but it looks like poppies maybe? I love the design. Do you have a close up? Is it by any chance new??? I'm redoing my living room and it looks like it would be perfect!!! BTW, I'm no help as I prefer the original paint!

When looking at the first photo above, I'll admit I still like the room and everything currently there works well together. Everything is warm and earthy, either green, cream or brown. None of our furnishings are fancy or even very expensive, it's a nice casual space to hang out.

I know this is going to sound silly but my DH was transferred 5 times between 1992 and 2004 and each time he was transferred we bought/built a new house. I've never lived in the same house this long in my ENTIRE life and I'm 45! Although I didn't like moving that often, I did enjoy getting to re-decorate a new space every 3 years! We've been here twice that long and I just want to change things up.

Inspiration pics don't have to be of rooms do they?

I was doing a little christmas shopping and just stumbled across this. Exactly the colors I would love to have in my family room. Cream, gray, turquoise and orange.

Your inspiration picture (ths soft turquoise/gray)has given me a thought-have you considered painting a focal wall in the turquoise? Some think a focal wall means you can't committ, but I think it can bring in a statement color without overwhelming the room. The teal color would compliment your fireplace stone. Remember, it's only paint...

I like the direction you're moving in. Love your dining room redo. I do think you should go slightly browner and darker.

Look at edgecomb gray- it might give you the feel you are looking for but coordinate better with the fireplace. Or go a little darker- river reflections, silver fox, Kingsport gray.

After reading the thread about jute/sisal rugs I decided the West Elm rug wasn't the way to go. I found a rug I love on the link mtnrdredux posted.

I convinced DD to photo-shop some colors and things for me.

Here's the F&B Mouse's Back, although it looks much lighter than the swatch indicates...

and the turquoise from the jacket above...

I'll take a look at the paints pps suggested tomorrow and see if I can't get her to do some more colors for me.

Am I completely off track here?

Wow, love your afters! Your taste is along the same lines as mine - greys, taupes, and getting rid of the yellowie beiges! I like both of the all one color photoshops above. The accent wall is a bit busy with everything else in the room, imho.

I'm currently obsessing over your study with Chelsea Gray walls and lightened, Restrained Gold ceiling....LOL!
