Using hardwood flooring as breakfast bar

Hi,

we're currently re-doing our kitchen and want to build a breakfast bar (attached to our island unit on one side but at higher level for sitting comfortably and measuring about 1.5-2ft by 6.5ft). We were wondering whether it's possible to make the top of the bar from wooden flooring as we've seen some australian cypress that looks great and would be relatively cheap. Obviously we'd need to put wooden support of some sort underneath the flooring segment and edge it properly. Is this a horrific idea that only an idiot would contemplate? Or is it feasible and if so how would you go about it? Any advice would be gratefully received!
