Can a hardwood floor be re-used?

A few years ago, we redid our living room in a gorgeous rustic maple prefinished, 3/4 inch hardwood. We are thinking of doing an addition, and the designer has proposed taking a bit of the old living room and incorporating it into the kitchen. I do not want hardwood in the kitchen, and I also do not want just tear out and throw away the 4x5 foot square of hardwood floor that would be incorporated into the kitchen. We will be installing the same hardwood in other areas of the house. Would it be possible to 'save' the area of hardwood somehow and reuse it in the house? I realize that it's kind of a strange question--but you never know till you ask!

Thanks for any insight.
