oak stair treads

Our house came with oak stair treads, which the dog has scratched. I know the best approach to restoration would be to strip and refinish. I don't have the funds right now for such a large project, so I'm wondering if there's a quick and dirty way to remove the scratches and restore the finish in the meantime.

Also, the color of the treads is noticiably lighter than the nearby hardwood flooring that they are supposed to match. As part of the stopgap fix, is there any way to make the finish a bit darker?

thanks.
