What is your decor style? That IS a LOT of money ($699) for a mirror. You probably have seen the type that are made from old window sashes. with mirror replacing the glass.

I did a Google search and came up with this one for $375, but don't know it it appeals to you as much.

Ouch - not making me feel better LOL! (I know it's expensive) but I looked at a LOT of mirrors and it's the only one that calls me! I'm pretty classic, clean lines - not trendy. Here's my LR - (sorry, I posted this pic before asking about my new sofa choice) - the mirror will go where that little console table is now (It doesn't live there anymore). Also, the love seat is gone. Thanks.

Your living room is gorgeous. I love the wall color and the furniture.I love brown and tan... The mirror you picked is all wrong and doesn't go with your decor. It has a contemporary look and would stick out like a sore thumb.
I love mirrors and have many mirrors in my home. Pick out a mirror with a wood frame that matches that little table...why did you move that table? ... it looks so sweet there. The lamp would be too big if you left the table and put a mirror on the wall above the table. The lamp is very pretty, find another place in the room to use it.
Save yourself a lot of money a choose another mirror.

I like it a lot. I had a wall in a dining room once that was done with mirrors that looked like window panes. I thought it was classic because it has the look of a window, not a mirrored wall. That hanging mirror has the same kind of look. I see why you like and I think it goes with your room.

I could duplicate/approximate that same mirror for $150. Easy. $700 is freakin ridiculous for a couple of beveled mirrors on a board. I can't imagine spending more than I make in 1 paycheck- it simple blows my mind.
coleen- your style is pretty basic: What I would consider contemporary with traditional elements and yes, even some trendy elements even though you claim not to be trendy. The mirror you are considering is very transitional in my opinion and would compliment your decor just fine. It is not "all wrong".
Your choice to move the demi lune was a good one as it seems to sit on the wall and not really "live" there comfortably. I think that would be an excellent wall to place a large-scale mirror. Especially one that mimics the windows as well as the PB one does.
Using Michaels beveled mirror tiles at $5 each- you could closely approximate the PB mirror for about $150.

Miles, I agree with you on the price but if someone cannot do it and botches the job, then they are out all that money and have to go buy the one they love anyway. I have mirrored whole bathrooms and bedrooms but is not a job for the timid, especially when one cut of a mirror costs you $15 if it shatters.

I don't quite agree, patricia- I think you're over-thinking the ease of this project. I would have to screw up 4 times to match the price of the PB mirror. The job to recreate the PB mirror is as simple as:
25 bevelled mirrors
1 tube of construction adhesive
1 sheet 3/4" ply
1 roll 3/4" iron-on veneer
1 qt flat black acrylic paint
1 set hanging hardware of choice

Lay out the mirror-tiles in the desired pattern- measure ht and wd.
Cut ply to the same measurments as above.
Finish edge by applying iorn-on verneer strip according to package direction. Sand & smooth rough edges. Stain or paint exposed edge as desired.
Paint front and back of ply black. Let dry completely before applying mirrors.
Secure hanging hardware according to package directions.
Lay out mirrors on ply to ensure fit. Glue each tile to surface of painted ply with construction adhesive. Let cure over night.
Hang according to package directions with appropriate wall anchors for weight.
Simple-dimple.
Heck, if I lived close enough I would charge $50 plus materials and have it to her in 2 days.

I think it would be a great classic addition to your room and will bounce around light pouring in from your windows. Personally I think the key with this type of mirror is that it must look well made so that it stands up to the rest of the room - if it looks like it's made cheaply out of plastic or cheesy fake wood - then it won't work. It's important to have a nice deep bevel edge on each mirror.

I do like Miles idea if you can find really nice bevelled mirrors.

Miles, you are a crafty one, we know. I too, tend to be crafty, but even that is a BIG project and would be a challenge to many people. Lots of measuring and getting it just right. As a quilter, I know you are undaunted by such things. :-) I would never attempt the project because I ain't so great with that kind of math...

I do agree that the PB mirror, while expensive, would be a good fit for your style Coleen. I don't see it as contemporary at all. I think my3dogs is on the right track...find the same thing but a cheaper version. Unless you have the $$$ and are tired of looking and just want it done. Done is good!

Thanks everyone - Miles, where do you live LOL??!!! I am the "uncraftiest" person ever - I can't even imagine taking something like that on! I would rather pay for something that looked nice than settle for something that I'd be less than happy with - especially when it's such a focal point on my living room.

skypathway - you are right - I saw some mirrors that didn't have that nice beveled edges - and others had that antiqued mirror thing going on - not the look I'm after.

my3dogs - thanks for the search - I like it , but i don't think it's quite big enough. I won't be putting a table underneath so it will have to stand on it's own. All of the mirrors I looked at were either too big or too small.

Colleen, if it makes your heart sing and your feet dance, what is the money? I once hung wallpaper, made mirrors, laid tile and carpet, made my own drapes and a lot of my clothes, could figure square feet of a room for carpet or wallpaper as fast as a calculator. Now, when my children attempt a project, I tell them how and they do the measuring and cutting.

I have a disability of MS and would never, never get on a ladder ever again. I have a fear of falling even wearing a short heel of a shoe when I was the original spike-shoe gal. I would not attempt to cut glass because I drop things constantly (my main reason for not wanting granite countertops) because of the lack of coordination and my typing skills of 150 cwpm have decreased to the point that I find myself retyping, retyping and still finding errors. Not everyone is agile in the beginning but some of us developed inabilities that surprise us and shock us to the core. When once I counted crochet and needlepoint, cross-stitch, tatted, knitted and candlewicked, I cannot even thread a needle now and everything blurs even to trying to use a camera. C'est la vie and I am lucky to be where I am today, but for the grace of God, I would not be here period.
