do they make bathroom faucets with a wide base?

Okay, so we're doing a mini bathroom makeover with paint and some new hardware. I'll hang a shower curtain to hide the brass edged shower door and replace all the shiny brass in the room with something else.

Floor and vanity and counter stay the same.

But here's the rub - the sink is part of the counter so it can't be easily replaced (or cheaply replaced). (Vanity is three cabinets wide.)

The facets are shiny brass and peeling and need to be replaced. The knobs have a 2.5" base and the faucet has a 2" base. Once those have been taken out te counter is going to be grungy and different, even after cleaning.

Short of going to a bunch of stores and measuring them, does anyone know if they make faucets with larger bases to hide that? Otherwise I am guessing I will just need to do some beads of colored caulk to hide/fix things.

Ideas?

(Faucets and knobs are a standard 8" setup.)

I don't exactly know what you are trying to do but they do make an 8" base plate that can be used with what ever faucet you choose ...

Here's what I have and want to replace: (note - this is as it was with the previous owner's stuff in it.)

The area around the knobs, where they go into the hole in the sink, is not in good condition and I would love to hide/cover it because I can't replace the sink. My knobs are 2.5" at the base so I figured maybe they make some with a 3" base which would had the messed up part.

I'm probably making it more difficult than I need to. I excel at that. :)

Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list.

I didn't get this style (Hex Modern) as I chose another style from Phyllrich. I am extremely happy with the quality of my fixtures as well as the aesthetics. The company was also great to work with as they are a relatively small company located in Southern California and so I was able to make some modifications. Do you mean hand held when you are asking about "shower spray handle". I have two hand held "wands" but they are are are just columns with a rather innocuous "wand" attached in the same finish as the rest of the fixtures. The actual control valves match the sink faucets. My shower head is actually a Speakman design which I believe was purchased through Phyllrich but when I was considering different style heads and hand held options it wasn't Phyllrich specific. I have a thermostatic shower valve so I have the three way diverter plus the temperature control in the shower plus the shower head plus two hand helds. I have the matching toilet paper holder and bathroom faucet. You can call the company to find out exactly what they carry and I would imagine they could advise you as to what items would work with what you are getting.

I'll be a contrarian. I would never knowingly rent a room with a shared bathroom in the hall. That would be a complete pass - I don't even like having to use a hallway bathroom in a sleeping situation in which I would share with friends and family because if I need to use it in the night I would have to wake up more/get more decently dressed and I hate having to shlep stuff to take a shower or perform normal grooming stuff in a bathroom. I don't have the horror of viewing a toilet from a bedroom that some houzzers seem to have. It certainly wouldn't bother me on a temporary basis. I have a master bath in my home and I can't remember the last time I actually shut the door. I don't have issues with smells or humidity but perhaps that is because my Toto washlet has a built in deodorizer AND I have an excellent Panasonic fan which runs based on ambient humidity levels. I don't generally even have condensation on shower doors or mirrors after exiting let along huge amounts of humidity wafting through my bedroom. The question really is one of economics. There is a cost to installing the bathroom and OP would need to decide whether they would make up the expense by having increased rent and/or renting it out more frequently. Certainly any prospective renter would see a picture and determine whether they wanted the ensuite with a curtain in the room or use of a bathroom in the hall. Also resale value is a red herring. At such point that OP wanted to sell it would be relatively inexpensive to convert the bathroom into a closet if having the ensuite in that room was a negative.

I couldn't find anything larger than 2 1/2" in a quick search.

When you say not in good condition ... how bad is it? Do you think a good scrubbing with Bar Keeper's Friend and then polishing with a cultured marble product (Gel Gloss) might help?

natal I just don't know. The guy who is going to do the swap out for me pointed it out and scared me a little bit because once we do this, I feel like I have to commit to it. But perhaps a really good scrub and polish will help.

Thanks for checking for me.

Now if I could just make up my mind about the wood floor in other parts of the house. :)

Has anyone found anything yet? The base of my faucet is 3". I know there will be some discoloration. Has anyone tried the Bar Keeper's Friend and Gel Gloss?
