I was reading a thread where you helped someone with wiring for their cooktop. I hoping you can help me.

I am replacing my cooktop with the GE Monogram induction 30 inch. It requires a 40 amp. I have no idea what my current cooktop required. I did read on the bottom of the current cooktop 240 60 hz...coming from my house is an orange and a black jacketed wire(a white one too, I think). My current cooktop has a red and black wire. The red wire is connected to the orange one on the old cooktop.

My question is would orange be 6, 8, or 10 wire? OR What color wire would I need for 40 amp? Am I making sense? How can I determine what amp my current cooktop is..any idea? If it helps my breakers are marked 20 (2 of them).

Thanks!!!!
