cabinet material decision for kitchen - help!

I am doing a contemporary kitchen and need help deciding on which cabinet materials to use.

It is an open floorplan kitchen and the floors throughout will be a natural hickory or maple which has a lot of light and dark boards intermixed so it's somewhat contrasty. There will be a large dark (mango wood) dining room table between the kitchen and the living room and my sofa is chocolate brown leather.

All the cabinet uppers will be glossy opaque white. I am trying to decide between bamboo and a lightish version of walnut for the base cabinets. The countertop will be white and so will the backsplash.

I like the idea of the light bamboo to keep things airy, but am concerned that the bamboo and the hickory flooring might not look right together.

I love walnut but am worried it might make the room too dark and heavy.

Here's a image of the basic kitchen plan. We'll be adding another level of cabinets up top and they won't have any wood on them. Ignore the colors in this plan.

THANKS!!
