White slipcover couch? Crazy? Or beautiful? PICS
Comments (17)I bought a couch with white slipcovers when my kids were about 2 and 4, and everyone thought I was nuts. But it was easy to take them off and wash them (just took a couple of loads, because we have a big chair and ottoman too.) They have been spilled on, drooled on (sleeping kids) etc. The only thing that really caused discoloration was yellowing from the sun through the southern exposure windows (now tinted.) Washing and drying them also made them seem to fit nice and tight on the cushions again - kind of spruces up the whole look. We have since replaced them with new slip covers in a chocolate brown, but kept the white ones just in case we want to use them again. That's one great thing about slip covers: you can replace them without replacing the whole couch. They're not cheap, but we purchased through Crate and Barrel, which has a sale every September. So I would just make sure that you can purchase new ones even years from now from the same place where you're getting your couch, just in case you want to....See MoreLooking for a slipcover source other than SureFit
Comments (17)I recently ordered 2 different sets of slipcovers from JC Penney, and they'll all be going back! I was looking for covers for a pair of wingback chairs we bought off of CL for $50. One cover was a stretch one (SureFit), and it definitely looks cheap. The second was a cotton duck, and it is so wrinkly and ill-fitting, that it will always look like a messy slipcover (and no way I'd iron it!) So, back to the drawing board for me. I searched and searched and searched online (and posted a similar question here), and it seems that good quality, pre-made slipcovers are hard to come by. Most websites are carrying the same small handful of brands of slipcovers....See MorePlease vote on sofa color -- demin or natural canvas/twill
Comments (19)hmmm, that's a toughie. Personally, I love the look of a light colored sofa too, but if you love blue - go with the blue! I also love the ticking stripe idea (I love stripes!). I'm currently going through the same dilemma and can't decide between a light off-white natural or a darker camel color. I was considering the PB sofa too, but I think I've decided on this one from Broyhill (can't decide on fabric though). The local store I called said you buy the frame first (which I'm considering upholstering in a fallish color) and then buy the slipcover separately (which I'm considering the natural twill). Total cost is between $778 and $1200 - depending on fabric type, but that's not too bad considering you get two looks. california dreamer, I currently have this Rowe slipcovered sofa: It has held up well, however I made the mistake of getting the down cushions and I would NOT recommend them! For the past 8 years dh and I have been poked and prodded with little feathers coming out of the cushions! The slips do hold up well after washing (I have a patterned cotton fabric - dont' know what I was thinking, should have gotten a plain fabric!) But the arms of the sofa are too tall for my tastes - they are tall in the back and slope forward in the front. I bought this sofa sight unseen, so I will try not to do that again. Lesson learned :)...See MoreHas anyone ever dyed a sofa slipcover?
Comments (37)My daughter is giving us her old couch & loveseat. They are down with removable covers. My problem is the covers are red and have stains, she has five children, and they don’t match the rest of our living room. Can red be dyed another color like a brown or ?. I would really live to have them just not in red, help!...See MoreRelated Professionals
