For those of you with kids and slipcovered sofas
Comments (21)Firsthouse mp-My living room is such that the zippper won't really be a problem. My sectional is a little pricier because I am getting an additional armless chair to add to the sectional (one side will be a seat longer than polly's). I think her configuration is a couple hundred dollars less. And wait for Penney's sales! Right now (till Sunday they told me-today) it is 15% off and I'd ask about the additional 10% opening a Penney's card. The site is not showing the additional 15% off. Macy's has a very similar looking new sectional called "lucie". It is even less expensive, but at this time does not have extra slipcovers for purchase. I can't immagine they wouldn't down the road but I didn't want to take a chance. Thanks for the guide with color. I love edgecomb gray. This is the color I would have done with the natural colored slipcover, but unfortunately it doesn't look great held up to khaki-or maby it does and I'm being too matchy matchy. Although I know things can blend if the right colors are incorporated. I have a color called Camoflouge up and I didn't think I'd like it being that it has a green tone but it looks great with the hardwoods and the khaki. Hhhmm. I ordered it on Wed (was that the 16th?) and it is coming the following week on Thurs. So about one week. Thanks again for the suggestions!...See MoreSlipcovers - Advice needed - White or Natural?
Comments (6)Is Dudley white? I recovered a pair of chair seats in a white matelasse. The fabric has held up well, but the cats (who are black, orange, and a tortie) love to sleep on them, so the hair issue is a constant battle. I just bought a darker, patterned fabric to recover them again. Just keep in mind that if the cat isn't a shade of white, you'll be picking off hair all day, every day. I have a twill slipcover, and the fur doesn't seem to cling to it nearly as badly. Do NOT use a chenille of any kind. Pet hair sticks to it like it was velcro, and the texture is too appealing for kitty claws....See MorePottery Barn Slipcovers-what color?
Comments (2)It's all depending on your decor style, your flooring (which cannot be easily changed), and your lifestyle (pets/children/etc.) Do you have a pic of the room? or at least flooring color? that always help! My friend has a PB sofa slip covered in "Natural" and it still looks great after 3 years. On the other hand, she has 2 PB wing backs slip covered in "denim blue" and now they look kinda bad being so faded from repeated washing:-)...See MoreSlipcovered sofas (Lee or RH) -- Are they truely washable?
Comments (15)Can you spray a slipcover with Scotchgard? Will that help repel dirt so it doesn't have to be removed and wash as often? I just received my new slipcovered sofa yesterday so this will be my first experience with slipcovers. I ordered it from Macys, already forgotten who makes it. Like you I ordered the fabric in a beige ticking so the upkeep wouldn't be as bad as pure white. But it's still light so anything that spills on it will show. Here's what I'm most afraid of after my bad experience with the last sofa which was leather. The dye on my denim jeans transfered to the leather. Will that happen with this cotton fabric too? Am I going to see a blueish tint to the seat cushions? I keep trying to find the *perfect* sofa, first it was the upholstered one but that got too dirty. Then I tried leather thinking that was the be all and end all...it lasted less than the upholstered sofa! So now I'm hoping slipcovers are the best solution. At least with that option I can sew new covers without having to scrap the entire frame just because the fabric gets old. I'm looking for longevity here and I don't know if that's even possible. The saleswoman at Macys told me to dry it 90% and then put it on the sofa slightly damp. What happens to the muslim underneath when a damp slipcover is placed over it...it won't get a little steamy under there in the dark? I've got a phobia about mildew, wet things in dark places scare me. But if that's what they advise I'll do it....See Moreanele_gw
