Staining Coffee Table & End Tables
Comments (5)my friend, yuo have bristle marks, that or you have a brush that isnt meant for use with solvents (i.e. nylon or some other synthetic bristle), what can happen if you use a synthetic brush with an oil based coating can make the bristles of the bruch fall out, fray or stick in the solution, if that's not the case then the bristles may be too stiff and making little furows in the urethane as it settles. the solution? foam applicator as far as your streaky appearance, that could be several things. firstly, all finishes that come in a satin are manufactured as a gloss, flattening agents are then added to the mix to make it that duller sheen. the solution? stir thouroughly. Stirred not shaken, opposite of james bond's preference. shaking can put bubbles in it as with anything with a pigment, sreaking can occur if the solid pigments in your coating float or settle, making some spots darker/lighter than other spots. the solution?? you guessed it, stir. the flattening agents settling coupled with the pigment settling can give you some odd effects as far as how it looks when it actually goes on, a good solid stir can fix alot of your problems, also, that foam applicator will make for a smooth finish. poly hsades isnt a bad product, nearly all of the molding in my house is coated with it, it just takes a little background info to make it look right...See MoreThe Pool Table Rises From the Ashes? Comments (13)We have a beautiful custom made pool table in our great room. It was used often during the first year and then hardly ever. It is a good place for us to put our folded clean laundry and paperwork that needs to be filed! It was great fun during parties though, not sure why we never use it. Maybe because it always has laundry and paperwork on it :) I'm glad to hear they're coming back in style. We're readying our house for sale and maybe house hunters will be glad to see a room dedicated to a pool table. Would be nice to negotiate it into the purchase price so we don't have to sell it on CL or take it with us across the country....See MorePLEASE pick my rug, coffee table and end tables!!
Comments (132)The coffee table is sized so anyone sitting on sofas can reach it. Not sure what additional lighting you might need besides the floor lamp? If you need more task lighting a floor reading lamp behind the plant would work and a directional light to up light the plant on a timer would be great. Set to come on at dusk and go out at your bedtime. Here’s my vision. I selected this sofa table because it has two drawers. Could be drop zone for keys or phone chargers etc....See MoreNew table for eat-in kitchen - what to do with old table?
Comments (18)I think we'll try Revivals first, and if they do not want it, then we will try Freecycle. If that does not work, I will try NextDoor. I have a NextDoor account for Palm Springs as well as one for Los Angeles, and I had to use two different email addresses to get two different accounts, but that is okay. I'm not fond of about half of the people on NextDoor here, and I wish they would not try to make it political. NextDoor seems to bring out the worst in people, which is why it would be my last resort. Also, I do not like the idea of strangers coming to my house. Revivals will pick up from my garage, but they will not come inside the house, which is okay. I think the furniture is too big to put out on the curb. I think the table and bar might be too big for bulky item pickup also, and it would just be scrapped if I had to go that route, and I do think that the furniture is perfectly usable still. The other option is putting it in the consignment store in Palm Springs. I think they would take it, but I would probably have to deliver it to them, and that would be a hassle. It is nicer than a lot of furniture that I saw there. I might send them photos of it and see what they say. Anyone have experience with sending things to consignment shops? I wouldn't care how long it took to sell, if it were at a consignment shop, since it would be out of my way....See Moremelle_sacto is hot and dry in CA Zone 9/
