The description says it's "charcoal" in color.

It looks like it sits close to the rug but it doesn't. There is plenty of room to walk. But the question is: does it pass the Board?!

It’s so funny seeing that the dogs colors coordinate with the black and whites in the rug! Too funny. I like that console. The depth worries me a little. Set some boxes that depth and length along that spot and see how the depth feels.

This coffee table is 48"L x 24"W. We'd have to buy two to get the 48" square. We like the storage aspect of this coffee table (which is also why we liked the charcoal TV console above, rather than the wall mounted option.) The glass is described as "smoked glass." Is the smoked glass too much considering the charcoal color of the tv console?

Also, we taped off a 50" square on the rug to get an idea of the size of the coffee table, and we now think 48" seems kinda small. How do you determine what size coffee table is appropriate? Is it based on the size of the sofas??

That is a standard coffee table size. Measure 18” from each sofa front cushion edge that is going to define that corner. Duplicate that for total size. You need 18” space to get on and off sofa and still reach coffee table. If you measure on floor that total space that will give you good feel for size.

I like that coffee table. It is substantial looking and stands up to stone fireplace wall.

The coffee table *above* (the one Flo described as "substantial") has a lead-time of January. The coffee table below is in stock. Obviously, we want to get what works, not just what's readily available, but the "in stock" aspect of the table below sure makes it attractive. .... Would it work? It's 52" square x 15" high. According to our measurements, the size works. Thoughts?

I like the 15" high one and it has some interesting finish, kind of hammered metal? That works!

I like the Hex base too because it will give it more strength for that size glass. Go for it!

I would definitely go with a glass top coffee table. I love the colors you chose- I didn’t read the whole thread, so someone else may have mentioned this. Although I very much like the painting on the fireplace, I think it’s too large for that space. Maybe try a smaller piece (dimensions are good) and put that one on the wall behind the couch that won’t have the tv

Hi Tricia - thank you for your input! The short story on the artwork is this: it was purchased out of emotion, not out of logic, lol.

It's really too big for our home! It is so tall that it takes up nearly the entire height of our walls and appears almost "cramped" in our opinion (but what do we know?) when put on a wall.

I will discuss taking the artwork down and putting it on a side wall like you and others have commented, but it might be too much of a project, not sure :). ..... I'll report back!

I LOVE that peppercorn color on the fireplace wall. That makes a huge difference. It also seems to ground your large painting and takes away the feeling of imbalance I felt before when I looked at the room. What brand is the Peppercorn paint? And btw, I accidentally posted a really long thesis regarding hanging large artwork. I was trying to write it to you, but painting the wall that color is a stroke of genius!

Amateur words of mine -- a feeling that 'she' is in an undecorated dressing room without any item with height [near her].... I saw floor lamp which helped.... just to say I liked the lamp added.

I am not a pro. Far from it. however your beautiful black chairs look smushed up together. I would skip the table behind the sofa so the couch can be moved closer to the kitchen, allowing more space for the chairs to be closer to windows, still flanking the fireplace but leaving the entire firebox visible and allowing “breathing” room. Beautiful room! You’ve done a great job.

PS A black top surface shows every single speck of dust. 10 minutes after dusting it looks as if you haven’t dusted for weeks.

Well, that didn’t work too well either... it’s pretty moot now that you painted the wall the dark color, but since you are a pro you might be able to glean something out of it for someone else.

Tricia! Wow! I have read your fantastic input about our large piece of art three times! lol We have decided to give serious thought to moving the artwork. We are going to discuss more thoroughly tonight and try to come up with a plan. -- and thank you for the color theory info! Love it! :)

Message to the Board:

We're on the hunt for end tables and a sofa table. Below is a picture of the room with two option included in the photo (between sofa and between chairs). Should the end tables be black/dark, or no? There is a wood option coming in the next post, along with some other options. I really don't know what color to look for.

(The media cabinet and coffee table in the lower left corner of the living room photo have been ordered, just so you guys know what we'll be working with.)

I liked the black metal one someone posted WAY up there somewhere on the thread. I also like the black one just above the gold one- in fact, that’s my favorite. It’s got a nice sculptural look. I think the gold one directly above is too much and won’t have enough color contrast with your sofas. Neither wood IMO. Thanks for reading all that stuff I wrote to the wrong person. OMG that was embarrassing 🙈. I also agree you definitely want to get a sofa table- where’s Flo?

Oh, between the chairs- yep that’s a good one. If that’s where it goes it couldn’t be dark. I agree with you Flo ( as usual) re: the sofa table eliminating the need for any other end tables. I have one and it is more functional for putting one’s drink on than I thought it would be.

Has anything been discussed re: one or more lamps? I don’t recall.

Well, that would be a reason to put a table at the corner between the sofas. Or...maybe a floor lamp there would be a better choice?

The coffee table is sized so anyone sitting on sofas can reach it. Not sure what additional lighting you might need besides the floor lamp? If you need more task lighting a floor reading lamp behind the plant would work and a directional light to up light the plant on a timer would be great. Set to come on at dusk and go out at your bedtime. Here’s my vision. I selected this sofa table because it has two drawers. Could be drop zone for keys or phone chargers etc.
