30 amp heater, 20 amp breaker

For the past year I have been using a electric garage heater. It is hooked up thru a 20amp 2pole breaker, 220v. I recently looked over the user manual and discovered this heater comes in a 20 amp and 30 amp model. I have the 30 AMP model but have been using it on 20 amp Breaker without any trouble. Questions, 1) Is this a fire concern? 2) Will upgrading to a 30 amp breaker make the heater perform better (more wattage, get hotter)? I have 10guage wire on the 20 AMP circuit now, will that handle the 30 amp breaker?
