Spread some cat litter (the cheap stuff) other the place where the vehicle has dripped. It will absorb the oil and leave your driveway fairly clean if you catch it early enough. We had an oil leak in one of our cars that had been happening for awhile, and cat litter a year later absorbed it all.

First of all, check to see why your cars are leaking oil. A healthy car should not be doing that. They will have moisture spill from air conditioning, but that is just water and will evaporate, but if your car is leaking oil, get it checked, then apply some cat litter.

Love the visual of someone rushing out there with a piece of cardboard, lol! Seriously, it was never an issue until we did the addition. I swear every single contract worker drove a piece of crap that leaked oil. We waited until the work ended then cleaned the driveway with a power washer. That was good enough. I figure the driveway is old and has cracks. A few stains just give it more character. I find enough other things to stress about, but I understand your irritation.

For instance, a really nice guy who has worked with dh for years fixed our air conditioner last week and his new looking van left a big mess. I didn't put cardboard under the van because he was here for such a short time but then I had to clean up the mess.
I've been using baking soda and granular laundry detergent and if it's really bad, muriatic acid.

Maybe I am the only one who does this!

I had a friend who's car leaked something, I think it was power steering fluid. She knew she had a problem and only parked in her garage with a tray under her car. I asked her twice to not park in our driveway, she obliged and understood. It is unsightly. I have never placed cardboard under anyones car, but I have asked them to move their cars if I notice it and then they return. Most people are not offended and understand. I have noticed most repair people have older vehicles and always park in the street. They do sell a degreaser at HD or Lowes. I think it is sold in the paint isle, it works well....and is safer than muriatic acid. It comes in a can similar to the size of paint thinner, thats why I think we bought it in that isle.

I used to be able to buy a drive-way cleaner at Walmart, but they no longer carry it in our local store. Does anyone know of a good product that will remove oil, etc. from garage floors and driveways? THANKS

I don't like anyone dripping oil in my drive, but I have no control over who drips in the street and plenty have dripped. By my new house, parking in front of houses is not allowed so that's good, the street should remain fairly clean.

Sorry,I forgot to post my suggestion for cleaning. The only thing I know to really clean oil spills is a steam cleaner machine.

Everyone who visits? Maybe you should just put a rope across the bottom of your driveway to give everyone the hint.

I guess you're not the only one. I'm a little touchy because I grew up with a mom and step dad that didn't even like people turning around in their driveway. Of course, they were tightly wound.

Brutuses, what kind of a steam cleaner? We have a carport in the back of the house that has 8 year old stains from when dh used to keep our tractor there. I haven't been able to get the
stains up.
Nessie, LOL! I don't like tire marks either! But since I make plenty I would never, ever say anything to anyone. That's just part of having a driveway.

When we had built the house my DD's friend came over (17) and the next morning I saw a big stain, really big. I was a little upset. I tried coke and it came off a little but within 2 months the whole stain was gone.

I had an oil leak in my car and didn't get it fixed because I was going to buy a new one (old one was14 years old), I always parked on the street because I didn't want to leave stains.

It doesn't really bother me now as I have to many other things to worry about.

I don't know any specific brand offhand. I just know the one we rent runs on a compressor and is heavy duty. We rent it from our local hardware store for a day. It's not much money. We clean all the cement, walkways, bricks, decks, wooden fence, house and anything else we can think of that day. It's worth the few dollars because it does a fabulous job.

Bumblebeez, I'm glad you let me off gently! As a matter of fact I am married to Mr. Clean who has a professional pressure washer that he uses around the house. Two weeks ago he pressure washed the porch floor so I could put a water sealer on it (hadn't been done in years) and also lots of wood steps and surfaces outside.

My mom and step dad were a different story. The driveway was only a small chapter. Probably my least favorite chapter was that thee could never be noise or music in the house....it was silent.

Hope you find a solution for your driveway. I'm still a year away from getting a cement one. Then I suspect hubby will pressure wash that too!

There's something cathartic about pressure washing cement, lol. Watching it come clean again is almost magical. But let the men do it. I don't have patience for something so tedious.
