I purchased a Volvo from my folks with money from my paper route. $800 back then. Took me a year to save that much. :0)

The first two cars I owned were the same make and year -- 1955 Chevy. And both were blue!

My parents tried to talk me into a pea green Vega, but I held out for something more sporty. Ended up with a '67 Mustang which I had painted cherry red. Kept it till I was 21... wish I still had it!

I had to sell it when I got married. While the thing
was huge, and you could fit 5 adults across both
bench seats, we couldn't move the seat back far enough
for DH to get his long old legs in the car! lol

My first car was a 1929 Model A Ford, 4 door, with little pull down window blinds on the rear passenger windows. I bought it after I began working after school at a filling station. I needed something to get me home after I closed the station for the night.

It had a burned exhaust valve on no. 3 cylinder. A local repairman took pity on me and helped to repair it. It cost me all of $5 for a head gasket. The repairman had several Model A engines laying about. We took a "best fit" valve from a parts engine and installed it in mine. The repair lasted to the end of life for that car (about 5 years). He did the repair in about 1.5 hour.

(Those engines do not have adjustable valve tappets. The valve is adjusted to length by grinding.)

I bought my first car my senior year of college so I could student teach. I really had no money, so a friend whose father had a used car lot got me a heap for a minimal amount. It was two tone rusty brown, one tone being brown paint and the other being the rust. The front seat was attached to the floor of the car with bolts at the rear of the seat; the floor had rusted away where the seat had been attached in the front. Thus, the front seat had something of a rocking chair feel to it. When I drove over slushy puddles, my ankles got splashed.

The driver's door would fly open when I drove down the clover leaf entrance to the highway. I would have to grab the door handle with my right hand and steer with my left.

I remember going for my interview to student teach at the new high school out on the edge of town. When I arrived, I looked down to see black slush stains all over my ankles and instep. So I went into the washroom first to wash the gunk off my nylons and legs before going for the interview.

The first one I bought was a 1979 Buick Skyhawk, 5-speed. Brown.

My first car was a used police car that that our local police department was selling. It was a few hundred bucks and my dad payed for half. We got a cheap paint job for it. It still had spotlights on both sides of the driver and passenger doors, so that came in handy for all sorts of things LOL. I was a senior in high school at the time and had a blast in that car.

My parents gave me my first car...a 1952 Buick Roadmaster, maroon with a white top.

The first "new" car I purchased was a 1964 Chevy Monza, white in color.

My "last new" car I purchased in 2005...special ordered...a bright yellow Toyota Scion XB which I hope lasts for the rest of my life. Love my little Tweety...my box on wheels.

1979 powder blue 2-door Monte Carlo. Was actually my parents and they let me trade it in on a 1985 brown Corolla (LOVED that car!). I then save up and paid them back the trade-in amount that Christmas.

In Atlanta, that Monte Carlo would be worth mega buck (respectively) now. The huge cars get all "gussied up" and the teenagers LOVE them!

Our high school was going on split shifts my Junior year. Mine was the second stop for the school bus. I'd have to be at the bus stop by 6 a.m. for a 7:30 first class. Oooh, poor Sue! I wanted a little import -- can't remember the name of it now, but it had three wheels and a lift-up door. My parents nixed that for safely reasons, and my father bought me a Ford Fairlane convertible.

When I was 21 I traded that boat for an Austin Healey 3000. I consider that MY first car! We had no garage for it after I married, and DH persuaded me it was too impractical; we sold it. WAH! (Fifiteen years later we bought another one!)

My first car was a 1946 Ford. Although I have had a variety of cars since then, I have never had a new car, and probably never will.

I bought a 1974 Camaro from a friend for about $1400 I think..my mom co-signed the loan, I was 19. I paid that off and a few years later at the ripe age of a week before 21, purchased a brand new Pontiac LeMans. I put the 6 miles on it on a test drive..

Mine was a used 1963 Ford Anglia. Cool car!

My first car was a 1959 Brown Studebaker Lark that my father handed down to me, at 17(legal age in NJ for driver's license).

Needless, it wasn't a "cool car", but I drove it until I was married.

No one in my family had a car except a well to do Aunt & Uncle. When I first met my hubs, he drove a big beautiful Buick Roadmaster,so I figured he had the buck$. Well he drove a big fancy car because he was single!! LOL After we were married and had kids, our cars were more scaled down and practical. Dottie

I had a ugly rusty dark green Ford Pinto. Got me around for about 3 years until a friend borrowed it and smashed it up, the idiot. He really was a bad driver. Was in his car once and he down shifted on the highway on icy roads and rolled it. Luckily the side on the highway was higher than the road and it rolled back onto it's wheels, facing the wrong way. No injuries, but the ashtray emptied out on us and we drove away. Just dented the hood a bit. We were lucky we were not hit by another car. My favorite little car my dad had was a Sunbeam, a little box of a car made in England. I ended up in a snow filled ditch once trying to back out of a long twisty driveway and 8 guys lifted in up and put in back on the driveway.

The first car I drove a little...just to work...was a '56 Ford stationwagon, and I later drove a '59 ford that was an old cop car, but the first car that was really my own, my husband bought for me after we got married. It was a '66 Mustange Fastback. Bright red.

1966 Chevy II. It was a family car but it was kind of designated as the 'school car' while my sisters and I were in school. I drove it from the time I was old enough to have a school permit until I graduated from high school. We (my two sisters and I) always wanted to paint it yellow and name it the booby trap... kind of a play on words :-)

My first car (I was 16) was a 1969 Pontiac Firebird, dark green with a black vinyl top. 8 cylinder. Boy, could that car fly!

My first car was a 1974 blue Pinto that I bought for 1400.00. I had it about a year when a drunk driver ran a stop sign and totalled it for me. Replaced it with a 1976 yellow Pinto. This was before we knew about their exploding gas tanks.

I remembered the little three-wheel car I wanted: A BMW Isetta. When I look at it now I can see why my mother nixed it as a safely hazard.

I had a Pinto. Blew a motor when I was driving to Florida. Luckily, DH was close by with is truck and travel trailer.

Maroon coloured 1968 VW Bought second hand for $1500,and sold three years later for $1800. Great car.
