Vacation was great, 85 and sunny everyday. My biggest decision each day was whether to lay at the pool or on the beach. I read 3 books and several magazines, took long walks on the beach and ate way too much funky stuff. But I am back and trying to get back on track.

Good to be back! I need to catch up.

DeeMarie - I know shopping for you will be a lot of fun - wish I knew you were my partner in Cancun LOL.

Last 15 months: Dec 2003- Went ot Alaska for Christmas w/ my family, first time in 15 years. Wonderful. January 2004 - DH decided he needed to separate and went looking for a place of his own. I received emails, cards and support from my SS sisters and DH & I went to counseling and started some work. May 2004 - My yearly visit with my Kentucky family and MADDIE! Loved it and LOVE her. Spring 2004 - Exchanged a series of emails with DeeMarie and we learned a lot about each other. Very fun and lovely conversations. Beautiful person, she is. June 2004 - Surrendered my dog to keep my husband. Painful but necessary. Again, lots of support from here. Summer 2004 - Spent living in Alaska. Drove up and down the state and had a killer time. Loved it but was happy when I got home in the fall, then I got homesick for Alaska - lol. September 2004 - Went to NY and met Raeanne and her DH- visit too short and had TOO much fun! The people are so fantastic that we're thinking of moving to that coast in a few years! Scoping weather and property now. DH started 2nd year of law school - only 1 more to go after this. I started back to college to finish a degree I started many years ago. All children in school. Dec 2004 - Had DH's family here for holidays. So stressful, DH blew a gasket and almost left again. Back to counseling...and deal making. Lots better now that family's gone. January - Signed up for another college load; continuing to work toward that piece of paper I want. Becoming aware that time flies when you don't have any. Signed up at WW Core Program. Determined to lose weight and be healthy. Still here, after many years and still checking in really regularly. Planning a trip to east coast in March to scout a place to live when we finally move. KYSusie~ Good to hear from you. Keep on truckin' toward wellness. Hi Guys! DeeMarie~ WOW! Great progress---that feels so good, doesn't it? Gretchen: Your DEX is a real prize! I'm happy you're able to keep your sense of humor with him! NHSuzanne~ Your lunch sounds fun. I'd love to go to lunch with a couple of friends. Think I'll pick up the phone and do some work on that! QOD: 1st choice: DisneyWorld in Florida 2nd choice: Kauai, HI. 3rd choice: Chicago I wanna go where it's WARM! Had my doc check up today. He said things are progressing normally, but I have to slow down my activities for up to a year. BAH! I really wasn't pleased to hear that-lol. My bady has to rebuild some lymph cells, build some 'cord' (don't ask!) scar tissue, and relearn how to process fluid and purge it without fluid retention in my abs. I haven't mentioned it, but after I do some strenuous exercise, lifting, or just run around a lot, my abs swell to a tight and uncomfortable size. I usually hang back a lot the next day, wear the body strangulator they gave me after surgery, and the pain goes away. But I wanted to know how long this would go on. I ain't used to sittin' in a chair, unless it's the driver's seat! I was planning on getting some good hiking in while in Alaska this summer, but I'll have to take it one hike at a time and see how it goes. Everything looks like it's on track though. Did I mention I am spending the summer in Alaska? I am. We're moving there and 'trying it out' for the summer. I'm searching for rental houses and a way to get my rig up there without haivng a financial meltdown---lol. I love the weather today---sunny, and a little chilly. I'm gonna go move some wood out of my driveway---had a tree removed and the guys stacked the cordwood in front of my garage. Not to worry, though, I bought a hand truck from Lowe's Hardware, so it shouldn't take too much energy to move it, one log at a time---S-L-O-W. The whole project will probably take me till the weekend though, as there is QUITE the stack out there. Here's another CUTE site! Check out the ex-boyfriend pj's. Good morning from drizzly, cooler SE Texas! I just finished my oatmeal and having the last few sips of coffee before getting ready to go work out. This makes 8 days of doing it, with only Sunday off. I've already lost a few 10ths of my BMI! They have this little gizmo there that measures it, and I tried it yesterday, a week after the first time, and was pleased to see that 7 days of exercise made some difference. Suzanne, I never did try the polenta last weekend because I have 3 rolls of it in the fridge and didn't want to waste it yet. But, I'm definitely going to try it in a few weeks. I'm just not eating that much of it anymore, which is probably good. I'm no good at naming rides today, but I think that my favorite one I read from y'all has to be BJ's: The Kharma Carousel: what comes around, goes around. :) Patti, I've never heard of, much less been to a Rosa's. Are y'all going there while you're in Texas? I miss freely dining at a Mexican restaurant now - I always order fajita salads without sour cream and cheese. No chips. :( I'm not shopping anymore for at least a month because I'm just not losing enough to make a huge difference in what I still have to wear to places other than the fitness center. I am wearing t-shirts I couldn't wear before. When I go to Dallas at the end of May, I will break down and buy a few nicer things, but that's it. It's nice seeing so many posting these days. I was so tired and a little sore yesterday, so I just rested and didn't do anything else. Some days I just don't have anything to say. I'm always glad that y'all do though! LOL

Hey all! Just got back from my gal pal's house. We totally bushwhacked her entryway landscaping and cleaned it up a lot! Her DH and she were loving all the light and energy that was flowing through there. The overgrowth had blocked the light to her front door and she couldn't see her driveway from her front door! The ferns had bolted through the evergreens and were stalky, 8-9 feet spindles of stem! So, we filled lawn bag after lawn bag of ivy, brush, branches, and tree needles. We worked for a full, non-stop 5 hours on cutting and bagging. Her DH powerwashed their deck and my teens babysat all the little ones. It was so much fun and so cool to see the result...not too mention the exercise we got! I may be sore tomorrow, but I'm jazzed tonight. Sunday, my 14 y.o. and I are headed to Costco to buy supplies for the local tent city that moved to the local church this week. It's a homeless, well-regulated group of homeless working citizens that move their city of tents from church property to church property every 90 days. They don't cause any trouble; they're just without homes. Anyway, some communities like them and some are frightened of the image they bring... We like nice humans, and they are, so we're going to visit with some donations for them. They publish a list of needs each week on the tent city website, so people can help. They give tours of their encampment to the folks who visit, and I really want the kids to see that everyone should help and not ignore the plight of people who are just down on their luck, partly because of our lousy economy. After that, we're cleaning and DH and I are hosting dinner for 2 other couples (good friends) and their kids. The kids are eating, then watching Racing Stripes. Then the adults will eat and catch up with each other. Catch you after that! Raeanne~ I think I'll stick with coffee for now, but the gin/tonic sure brings back foggy memories of night-clubbing in the early eighties! ---- oooooohhhhh, la, la!! NHSuzanne- So cool you got to ride! Sounds so relaxing and peaceful. I'm happy you and SP got to connect again.... Besh~ A smaller dress size? I wish I could say that! Maybe sooner than later! I hope that you don't mind if I do the questionnaire later? I got a call on Thursday night. An ex BF, we were engaged & it just didn't work out but we are still very good friends, lost his 21-y.o. DD. It was as if someone had stabbed me in the heart. She had been a part of my life too. And, of course, when he hurts, then I hurt too. Dave was sweet enough to let me cry on his shoulder until I couldn't cry anymore. She had a clot that just let go, I guess, & went to her heart. It was very sudden & unexpected. He was divorced & they had lived in different towns. She was the baby & was everything to him. We leave in almost a week for our month long trip to TX.

Tikanis~Please, if you read this give me a call. You won't believe it but I lost your number again. And, after I told you there was no way that I could lose it. I cannot even say what happened.

1. LAST MOVIE YOU SAW IN A THEATER - I am pretty sure it was Ants or a Bugs Life it was animated insects.!
2. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW? The Wealth of Families. Kind of technical but good reading.
3. FAVORITE BOARD GAME? I love monopoly and can never get anyone to play with me. Scrabble is another favorite.
4. FAVORITE MAGAZINE? Bon Apetit and Martha Stewart Living
5. FAVORITE SMELLS? A horses breath and itÂs mane I just love to bury my nose in their manes. Also the smell of real lavender and citrus fruits.

I am enjoying the questionnaire.....

Sunday night at 11:07 pm I had to call 911 for my DH. I came into the bedroom and he was having a seizure of some sort. Turns out his blood sugar level bottomed out and it triggered a heart attack (which was mild). The emt got his sugar level up a bit, but did not like what the heart monitor looked like and told me he had to go to the hospital. He had an irregular heart beat and it finally got itself straightened out sometime monday morning. He is fine and home now. He was in the hosptial for a couple days and had the heart cathe done and was released Tuesday evening. It was a long couple days for us. It was a wake up call and I am just thanking my lucky stars he is ok and still with me. He is now on heart meds to keep the beat regular and will be following up with a heart specialist next week. I am so glad this episode is behind us. He has been working with his regular doctor on his high blood pressure and diabetes, so now whe have this to add to his list of aliments....

Hello all,

Lynn, I am glad that DH is okay and doing well. Whew. That could have been a disaster.

Last night while I was out to dinner with a friend, all of my beloved chickens disappeared. Something got to them and they scattered. I was up until after midnight searching, in vain, for them by the light of the moon and flashlight.

This morning I was back out before dawn searching and calling and I found four of them dead in the pasture all within a very close radius. Three had thier heads ripped off with bodies intact. The 4th was just dead. General consensus is this was the work of a weasel. Searching my property I found the the remnants of two more hens. I've lost six and the other 8 are no where to be found. I have no idea if they are dead or alive.

I stayed home until noon searching the property for more clues and talking to neighbors but found nothing new. I came to work hoping to be distracted which I am somewhat but I am just devastated and my heart is breaking. I cannot bear the thought of never seeing any of them again.

Oh yes, I've known all along that this could happen but I was never prepared for the violence and horrific nature of this act. My only hope now is that some of them are hiding and afraid to come out (who would blame them). With any luck some of them will surface but right now it looks pretty bleak.

I had to share my grief. Say your prayers for my beautiful little birds.

Lynn~ [[[[ H U G ]]]] I can certainly empathize with you. I cannot remember if you have been here since Dave has had both of his heart attacks or not. It was very frightening & I know that it puts a fear in you that is hard to explain.

NH Suzanne~ [[[[ H U G ]]]] Oh, you poor thing. What a horrible thing to have to find! Anytime that we have lost our pets to death, I have been helping my Mom with her health & Dave has taken care of things. I honestly don't think that I would deal well. Dave & I still cry when we talk about the 2 dogs & 2 cats that we had to leave behind b/c they won't let us have them here. That is a BIG reason that I want to go back to TX where we can have our own place, be close to family, & have pets--(more children). LOL

Besh & Donna~Thanks. I love coming here.

Just a couple of more days until the big Super Bowl Day. How many are watching? Who will you yell for & who will you celebrate with?

Raeanne~This is already one spoiled baby! LOL She is the first grandbaby on both sides. She is only 6 hours from her DM's DPs so they get to see her way more often & of course they have done their share of spoiling. Of course, you wouldn't know that the DGSs weren't my biological ones b/c I spoil them as much or more. There is something about it--I just cannot help myself. We are going to babysit the youngest DGS while his momma is in school. That should be fun. (You should see the packages that we are taking for Valentine's Day for all 3 & then DGS #1's b'day is on Valentine's Day. Close to DeeMarie's!

Please remember my DS on the 8th. That is when she has her surgery. They are going through the front of her neck to remove a vertabra & there is a slight chance that she might not make it & a slight chance that she would not be able to speak again.

Dee~Sorry that you are under the weather. That is never any fun.

I'll try to get back on here tomorrow before the Super Bowl starts--if I have finished with my packing. I have most of it done but am waiting on some clothes to dry. Since we have to go to a laundromat, I don't like to have my clothes dried there & prefer to have them hung up to dry. Have a Super day everyone--you must be since nobody is posting. :) Patti

Patti - My sister-in-law had that same operation. It was a long recovery and it took her awhile to get her strength back, but she is glad she had it done. She was in so much pain before. Here's hoping your DS' operation goes smoothly. Have a great trip to TX! Oh, we have had to postpone our trip to FL until the first week of May. Too many schedule conflicts and the ticket prices were outrageous.

It is cold and bitter outside today. I ran to the store to pick up ingredients for lasagna and potato soup. I plan on staying home tomorrow and playing in the kitchen.

Stay warm if you are on the east coast!

Marci~Thanks. They told her that she would be in the hospital overnight & back at work in a week so I will know if that doesn't happen that it isn't anything to worry so much about. She was dropped on her head when she was in 2nd grade & had a bad concussion & has been in pain for a long time too. She is only 21 months younger than me. We plan to have a great time in TX & NM.

Tikanis~I wish that we had had the chance to talk before I left. Perhaps when I get back. I know you must be busy b/c you haven't even been posting.

I'm packed except for what I will need tomorrow a.m. & will pack then. I'm taking my DF one of Bill Bryson's books. LOL I hope that he enjoys it. DMIL is still in the hospital. I should be able to post from DM's house & DS#1's house--if I let go of the baby long enough. I'm going to get ready to watch the game. I hope that everyone enjoys the time that they have to the fullest! My friend is still having a very rough time. Enjoy the next week & I'll try to pop in the week after that if I can. Patti :)
