I do not want to see anything from Michelle Obama in a home decorating forum (or from Ann Romney either). iVillage, please keep politics -- no matter how subtle or tangential -- out of GardenWeb.

I hate those ads and agree with awm03 completely. It would be nice if there was a close button.

It is so annoying that I am OUT OF HERE until the ad goes away. I can�t tolerate the interference!

I finally gave up with their ads. After seeing this one and no way to exit, I downloaded Firefox. Used to have it and now there are no ads, even the scrolling ones on the side. Really didn't want to change over, but there were a lot of options to make things easy. One was importing all my bookmarks and keeping the bookmark bar. Right now I am happy.

GardenWeb is owned by iVillage, which is owned by NBC Universal, which is owned by Comcast, whose Executive VP is a big fund raiser for the Democrats.

Now, that's his prerogative & I'm fine with that. But to sneak politics into our Home Decorating forum, especially with a pop-up that can't be removed, makes me angry. I doubt we'll be seeing "Home Organizing Tips From Ann Romney" for balance -- not that I'd want that anymore than I want phony advice from "Michelle Obama."

I turned off javascript. There are a few sites I need to go to that require it so I turn it on /off as needed. It has also stopped the annoying blogher video ad.

We should start an "Ads I want to see thread"....

I wonder how long it would take any of us to get "friendly reminders" if we started discussing politics right here! I think we should start talking politics until they get rid of that thing. How dare they inject politics while forbidding us.

I love the Obamas and am a strong supporter, but I resent that ad. I have always said I will never knowingly buy a product that scrolls around the screen, but I will still vote for Obama. I hope this ad doesn't backfire on the campaign.

The thing that drives me the most bonkers about this one is that it BLINKS AT ME every time I scroll down...off, on...off, on.

I can tolerate ads on the side, since I get to participate here for free, and I can easily ignore them, but shortening the page and BLINKING AT ME is a horse of another color!

I just clicked on the ad, DELIBERATELY DID NOT READ IT, and it is gone!

Firefox and Adblock Plus will get rid of all ads...

We changed to firefox last week and that darn ad was making me crazy this morning.So why wasn't it eliminated on my screen?

I'm on Firefox and it's not fixing the problem for me.

When you use Firefox, go to 'Tools', 'Ad-Ons.' In the search bar type 'Ad-Block'. Download Ad-block, Simple.

Ads will be gone. You can also download 'Flash-block' which will block any 'flashing or moving ads'.

I have never seen an ad on this site or any other. Even Google doesn't have any ads. Ad-Block is amazing and works. Have used it for years.

I never see an ad anywhere on the entire internet thanks to Firefox and the Ad Block add-on. You should use it too!

The only problem I have with Firefox is that somehow it does not work with a game I like to play on Facebook. In order to play, I have to use IE and then I am blasted with ads.

I have Firefox & AdBlockPlus, which normally get rid of anything. But not this one.

Thankfully, it's gone. What were they thinking, putting in a pop-up that couldn't be removed & jumped up & down as you moved around the screen? Did they really believe people wouldn't find that annoying?

I resent the fact that we each are singularly responsible for having to go through the trouble to download something or do whatever we have to do to block these annoyances. (And I happen to consider this particular one as a political statement.) Every day is a new adventure with GW and I just get so sick of it. I sent them an email.

I haven't read all the replies, but here's what I did to get rid of it, outside of throwing something at my computer screen! lol.

I use AOL, in YaYa's current topic someone said to install Firefox. I went to adblockplus.com. It's free and fast.

I closed my AOL then downloaded it. I logged onto AOL again, came here, and voila, it's gone!

I'm not using the FF internet though, but it got rid of that black THING.

I use Firefox with Adblock plus and I didn't see it. I have never seen an ad since switching over years ago.

I definitely agree with woodie.
I do NOT want to have to download something just to solve the problem of these uncontrollable, unnecessary nuisances.

All that these things are generating is irritation toward whatever site or product is being pushed.

It's not that big of a deal. I downloaded it once years ago and that was it.
