Help! I am totally kitchen obsessed!

I have SO much work to do at work, but I find myself drifting back here all day, and I'm not getting anything done. With this expensive kitchen being put in, I can't afford to get fired!

I'm at the stage where the remodel has been going on for quite a while, but it seems like it will never end, and nothing looks like a kitchen yet. We are not that inconvenienced, we have a good temporary kitchen out of the way of the old kitchen, but I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE MY KITCHEN!!

I'm nervous I won't like it, I'm regretting some decisions, but mostly excited to see it. So I endlessly look at pictures of kitchens, trying to imagine which one mine will look like.

How do I deal with my obsession? Maybe coming here is like a drunk going to a bar to ask for advice for quitting drinking, but how do you cope?

Will it ever be done? Have others felt this way?

No one came to work at my house today, and while I've been trying to be patient, I hate idle days.

Oh my god - I'm going through the same thing this week! I work at home on the computer and it is soooo easy to get distracted! I'm making those final decisions, sink/faucet/hardware, and I have been surfing the net all day!! What will I do when everything is decided and I am just waiting for things to get started???

I'm afraid I can't help you because I'm having the same problems.
We;ve made lots of decisions and I'm second guessing or just wondering about all of them.
We are in our first day of demolition today, our floor starts going in on Monday and the following Monday the cabinets start getting installed.
We picked our hardware yesterday and now I'm going to look at switchhits.com for outlet covers.
I'm tired of making decisions and I know our remodeling time is SO short compared to others but I'm ready for the next step.

I don't know how big Lawton is, which means it's probably not big enough for what I was going to suggest--and that's a youth hostel or something. If you were moving to NYC, I'd suggest you get a room at the YMCA on the upper west side, and use it as a base while you figure out what to do, where you can afford to live, whether you'll be there longer, etc. But those sorts of "single room occupancy" places, or youth hostels, aren't very common--they're usually only in large cities. Or, if they're present in smaller cities, they're kinda skeevy, bcs some of the folks in them will be people who can't get it together quite for unpleasant reasons. (though if you can find one, it might be But, you might call the Chamber of Commerce and ask if there's any sort of residence hotel in town, or if they've got any ideas about finding a roommate situation. and roommates.com had a share available for $230/month--most folks would rather have someone they know will be around for a while, but they might be able to work with you. If you've got any connection w/ someone in the Army at Fort Sill, they might be able to help you find something--I don't know if anyone lives off post, but if they do, there might be an Army-run housing list of some sort. I know I stayed for a while ON post in not-too-expensive housing bcs my Army brother signed me up; I don't know if that would work.You'd have to have an Army person to speak for you. To get an apartment on your own (or even as a roommate), you need proof of an income source--in other words, a job, or someone WITH a job who will co-sign for you (in other words to legally commit that they will pay the rent if you can't). Thank you so much for all your opinions and help. I'm still in progress, but I'm so happy. I'm doing the Snoopy happy dance! After funcolors said it's up to me how much imperfection (the gist) I can tolerate, I went back over and spackled any pits or indentations that I felt would show or bother me. I sanded with an pieces of paper bag (unprinted side). It's a trick I learned somewhere, the paper bag is basically an ultra super fine grit. Then I vacuumed, cleaned and primed over those spots. I stayed up late to get the first coat of Cabinet Coat on. The instructions said the first coat needed to dry overnight. I got it up and got curious what it would look like with the darker upper wall. I had a quart of Kwal's version of Tobacco Road in flat and put it up on one wall. It's thin, but I was just looking to get an idea. Although this version of Tobacco Road is a bit darker than I wanted, I'm thrilled with the overall results. I'll probably either color match my Sherwin Williams sample or just buy the SW version. I took pictures, one is a long shot the other more of a close up. Yeah, there's imperfections, but they're not noticeable when standing up or seated at the table. The Cabinet Coat leveled out great. Why Cabinet Coat? I had it on-hand and wanted a durable finish, wipable finish. In case anyone asks about the color, the formula mix for the Cabinet Coat is: 5 parts White to 1 part Almond I'll update again when I'm finish (hopefully tonight). : ) Kathe Here is a link that might be useful: Dining room in progress

Thanks all..Ellen it’s the candle for that hurricane glass. The funny thing about it is there’s a rather large hump at the bottom of the glass making it impossible to stand straight up. It just falls against the the side, not a little..a lot! Yep, it’s cheesy, tinny, razor sharp at the bottom and my most epic internet-purchase fail! I’m looking forward to posting a few more pics a later next week...how do you like your staged envelopes! They really put me in touch with my feminine side. Not that there’s anything wrong with that lol!!! But yea, I’m super quick to defer credit on that idea ;). In fact, all I did was the rug and the rug would’ve been drapes if it weren’t for pandtkendall..who I think hates it lmbo! As long as Kat likes it..I’m cool! That made my day! So...tune it down. All of it. A laminate kitchen counter and PAINTED 'water fall' can be done. Remember all that 'paint effects' done in the 80s and 90s? Right. Go learn how to make this marbled look work. And you do not have to have a water fall counter. You can have a regular counter while painting the back of the cabinet boxes to give the same effect. Cost? Very little. Remember: Flooring is expensive for a reason. It is HEAVILY abused. Save some money elsewhere so that you can get a moderate to decent level of flooring. Do you need herring bone? No. Do you need the COLOUR? Yes. So go out and find a colour of sheet vinyl that is a decent match to the lime washed wood in the inspiration pics. Remember: you are in love with the LIGHT WHITE well light bright airy appearance. So go ahead and duplicate the FEELING not the fixtures. Save money on the cabinet doors and trim by using less expensive options. Did you know you can PAINT on the effects? Yep. Painted FX are awesome! And once guests figure it out, they are even MORE amazed at the appearance. You can use low-cost doors in the right colour to start with. And then paint away until you can't stand it any more. Heck. Hire an art student to paint on the effects. You will save $5K and help pay for someone's living expenses for semester! Win-Win. The way to figure out what is important to you is to squint at the photo. As things fade away, you will find the BONES of the inspiration...not the fluff. Once you strip away the expensive fluff you will expose the items that you can mimic using less expensive items. Paint...paint...paint + a sheet vinyl with the same COLOUR tone as the herring bone. You will be right on track. You will still need to budget $10-$15/sf for the flooring. Any lower and you are playing with plywood.

I work from home and it's very hard to stay off this site, both because the workers are loud and I'm excited about the progress (and cranky when there isn't any).

Well I've been done with my kitchen remodel for nearly a year and I STILL spend too much time here! It's killing me because I keep seeing things I should have done or could have done or things I like better than stuff I used. The only bright side to this is that if I ever do remodel another kitchen (DH says NO WAY!) or we build a home, I will have the most awesomist (12 year old DS's favorite word) kitchen ever!

You're right jaedwards, we SOOOO need a 12 step program! TKO's Anonymous!

We tried a twelve step program last year I think...unfortunately step number six is "buy another home so you can do another kitchen" :oP

I can't help myself... I NEED to see what's new in the kitchen forum everyday (actually usually several times a day!) STEP 2: Admit you have a problem?

We are in week 2 of the remodel. The drywall / painting seemed to be taking forever. I think the GC was doing it this way so I wouldn't complain about no workers at the house.

Today they started laying the floor, but there is still a lot of work to be done. I hope things at least move along at a steady pace. I am sooo looking forward to see everything come together :)

I'm glad to know I'm not alone!

Everyone's kitchen seems to progressing so much faster than mine. I hear a rumour that they will start installing the radiant floor heating system tomorrow. Deciding to install that slowed everything way down, because we didn't decide until after demo was done, and they had to order the parts, and it took a while for them to come in. I hope to hell the plumbers actually know how to install it, and I hope it doesn't take too long.

Once that is done, I really do think things will start to move faster. I hope so anyway. We may even see cabinets next week, I hear.

And I think I check in here several times an HOUR. LOL.
