Post some photos and you will get lots of good ideas. Any color on a blank long wall is going to dominate the room. Think beyond paint color to artwork and/or furniture.

If money is no object, put grasscloth on the wall.

Not sure what Garden Sage color is, didn't see it in our SW fan deck. We used SW Svelte Sage in our master bath. It turned out a lovely sage color -- we have a brick floor and contrasting brick herringbone in our shower. Could you maybe do some trim in brick or stone in your area? At least for us the warmth contrasted well with the deep sage.

Then just run your cursor over each photo -- and four codes will automatically appear under it. Click on the HTML one -- and it will automatically COPY. ((I just love that feature!!!))

Then open a message here at GWHD -- and PASTE in your photo. Thats it!

So trying to decide on sage.. tried grassland .. too minty or puttyish??? Maybe will just do svelte sage everywhere and grassland on the long wall?

rest of house will be softer tan w/ white trim to replace 60's blonde trim.. i know.. should match thruout.. but no way we can change all this oak.. esp in the $$$ Pella windows

Well -- how about considering a small sectional on the wall with the windows -- and then an entertainment center on the long wall -- to hold the TV/components as well as books and toys? Check your local Craigs List -- may be some possible candidates there! Or check out Ikea.com (or other build-as-you-go bookcases and Tv stands) Maybe a couple of tall bookcases with a TV stand in the middle?

As for wall color -- you might want to wait until you find an "inspiration piece" -- maybe fabric (on the new furniture?) or an area rug or artwork? Garden Sage is pretty! :)

Here's the thing........if you get the right shade of paint to suit your room and your taste, it won't be too much. That wall will always be too much in your room if you don't work with it to add interest. The paint will go a long way towards making it prettier. Then, you might play with furniture or art or a large mirror or something to fill it and lead into the kitchen.
Your paint choices sound good. Do you have a favorite? Have you bought a sample quart? If you have, go ahead and roll it onto the wall. I would probably start where the long wall hits kitchen and paint a swath at least 6' high and 6' wide heading back into LR. That way, I could stand at the windows and visualize my color going on into the kitchen. Or........I might do the opposite. Take my sample quart (SW only charges $5 each so it's a deal!! But keep in mind that it won't have all the depth of color as the real paint!) and paint the area between the fireplace brick and the window trim. Any of your sages or blue greens will look good with both your flooring and your trim. It's just a matter of deciding how deep you want to go. I also love Benjamin Moore's Dry sage. It has a moody look that segues from muted green to almost a gray-blue at times, depending on lighting. Also very very pretty with wood.

Does it have to be SW. My DBIL is my painter and he uses BM. I love sage green and have used it twice in my house. The first pic was taken when we first moved in. I had to work with these drapes left by previous owner. It is BM Saybrook Sage it is kind of a grey-green. We have since replaced drapes and repainted. In my kitchen I have BM Flowering Herbs it is a nice Sage Green. In the adjacent FR I have BM Baby Turtle. It is darker and on the same paint strip as FH.

Marybeth, all your rooms are gorgeous! I have the BT in my own living room, so I am a bit biased. The Flowering Herbs, just a little softer on the same strip as Turtle, I have never tried, but love it every time I see it used. And your Saybrook Sage is just perfect in the room with the pretty picture over the sofa.

Not exactly paint-related, but it would be nice to orient furniture towards view out the great windows. Is there a place for TV if that is done?

With furniture against the long wall, there would be something for the paint color to relate to, which will change how it appears in any event.

Thanks Red! I love green! I think it is go with allot in the right shade of course. I figure grass is green and look how nice it goes with nature. Someone knew what SHE was doing. LOL!
